New law requiring Pledge of Allegiance time in school has Bay, Saginaw students talking

BAY CITY, MI — The school day has a new beginning for many Michigan public school districts, including those in Saginaw and Bay counties.
Each day, kids enter their classrooms, take their seats and hear the day's announcements. Then, they stand to recite the Pledge of Allegiance under a new state law that mandates schools make time for the pledge.

The Michigan law took effect at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. It requires providing students an opportunity to recite the pledge each day, although they aren't compelled to say it. A second law requires public schools to display a United States flag in each classroom or site where students say the Pledge of Allegiance.

State. Sen. Roger Kahn, R-Saginaw Township, sponsored one of the Pledge of Allegiance bills, the one requiring flags in classrooms. Kahn said the goal of the law is to have students learn about the United States and what it stands for at an early age.

Question.....do you feel there should be a Law requiring itor should it just be a normal thing to do without it being a Law?

88 cats rescued from hoarder house in Ypsilanti Township

Now come on I can see having a few cats ok, but I mean really COME ON!!!

Officials seized 88 sick and malnourished cats from a hoarder's home in Ypsilanti Township early Wednesday, the Humane Society of Huron Valley said.

Some were saved from places as small as a silverware drawer.

"They are completely stressed," said Deb Kern, marketing coordinator for HSHV.

The society's Cruelty Investigation Team received several tips about the house and discovered the cats around 7 p.m. Tuesday night, officials said.

"This is probably the worst hoarding case we’ve seen in recent years," said Matt Schaecher, Director of HSHV’s Animal Cruelty and Rescue Department in a media release. "The house was beyond disgusting, with feces, flies and garbage everywhere. There were fragile little cats in every nook and cranny of the house. I literally pulled four cats out of the silverware drawer."
