MENLO PARK, Calif.—On a recent afternoon, police officer Mary Ferguson visited the home of a teenager in this Silicon Valley suburb who had been missing school and was on probation.

Officer Ferguson approached the boy's father as part of her rounds and asked if he checks the teen's Facebook page to make sure he's "on the up and up." When the man said he didn't, the officer assured him she did—thanks to a Facebook account she uses as part of her job that doesn't reveal her true identity. "I'll keep my eye on him," she said.

Officer Ferguson, 34 years old, is sometimes called "The Facebook Cop," but it isn't for her savvy use of social media. It is because her salary and benefits are paid entirely by Facebook Inc., which is based in this well-off city of 32,000.

In an unusual deal, the social-networking giant has agreed to fund a $194,000-a-year police position, including salary and benefits. The position is controlled by Menlo Park and the primary duties of the job are to keep children in school, work with juvenile offenders, and help large local businesses such as Facebook plan for emergencies like fires, earthquakes or violent intruders.

The Awful Reason Florida Is Bulldozing One of the World’s Rarest Forests

The lush tropical canopies of pine rocklands exist only in South Florida, Cuba, and the Bahamas. But soon the Sunshine State will lose some of its remaining tracts of the imperiled ecosystem in Miami-Dade County, expelling wildlife and rare flora to make room for a new tenant: Walmart.

This month the University of Miami sold 88 acres of rockland to Ram, a Palm Beach County–based developer known for building strip malls and residential complexes. The Miami Herald reports that the company has allotted space for 900 apartments and 185,000 square feet for a Walmart, in addition to a Chick-fil-A, a Chili’s, and a fitness center.

Before the sale, the university and the developer agreed to preserve 40 acres of rockland. For environmentalists, it’s not nearly enough.

Therapy dog making miraculous recovery after being poisoned by landlord

The Linebargers who believe their believe their landlord illegally entered their home and gave their crated dog a lethal dose of Baclofen, a strong muscle relaxer arrived home on July 7th to find their residence ransacked and Doug’s therapy dog, Willow, covered in urine, drooling and unresponsive.

From Doug’s Facebook page:

"........ the vet clinic will not give her the best treatment she deserves until we pay almost $1,700… nor will they let us leave until we pay. If we leave they will put her down. So we aren’t going anywhere."

“To those of you who trust so easily and trust those who work in the public school systems to be kind and protect our children, I want to bring a sad story to your attention. We have been renting from what we thought was a good Christian woman who is a principal in the Oklahoma City Public school system. She is the most soulless, evil woman I have ever met. We have been dealing with her illegally entering our home, walking in on my wife in the shower and constantly driving by. Well, just yesterday this woman, who claims to be a good Christian woman, entered our home unlawfully while we were away and trashed our home and poisoned our fur baby Willow and left her for dead. Not only is she a family member but she is also my service dog that helps me stay calm from PTSD that I suffer from for being a combat veteran.

You know when you say I hope they get the same treatment........... (very NSFW)

After Tom-Jan Hüsch’s girlfriend broke up with him, he decided to take revenge to an unforgivable level by hitting the very dog his girlfriend brought him as a present multiple times. Worst of all he decided to film it all and upload to Facebook.

Warning. This footage you are about to see is very distressing. I have to admit, probably one of the worst I have ever seen. It really is - the original video is at the linke below, but unless you have a very strong stomach I advise against watching (I couldn't).

This video was since removed from Facebook however this footage went viral attracting the attention of one man who decided to bring this little dog justice by tracking down Hüsch and inflicting the same pain he did on the poor defenceless dog. This guy also took a video of himself beating up Hüsch which he later posted online as a warning to show that animal cruelty and abuse will not be tolerated in Germany.
