N. Korea building missile launch pad capable of aiming at U.S.: report
North Korea is improving one of its missile launch sites and may soon be able to fire rockets large enough to hit mainland United States, according to experts.
Recent satellite images appear to show that one of the country's launch stations has been modified to accommodate an intercontinental missile 25 percent larger than one it fired into space in Dec. 2012, according to a report by Johns Hopkins Universitys U.S.-Korea Institute (USKI) published Wednesday
The report added that the launch pad, which could be ready as early as March, would allow for "a more robust rocket test program in the future involving larger space launch vehicles and road-mobile ballistic missiles able to attack targets in Northeast Asia and the United States."
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper warned the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday that North Korea had gone through with its threat to continue its nuclear weapons program, posing a serious threat to the United States and to the security environment in East Asia.

Not overly worried about this right now, their missiles have a very poor track record, but in the future....

A Nye County Sheriffs sergeant was ensnared in a drug sting and arrested over the weekend after a subordinate became suspicious of the superior officers insistence that he be the one to book a bottle of pills into evidence.
The subordinate alerted narcotics officers to the sergeants demands on Friday. The narcotics officers were able to inventory the pills before the subordinate handed them over to Sgt. Michael Horn to be booked into evidence.
Once the sergeant booked the pills, narcotics officers took them from the evidence room and recounted them. A total of 60 15 milligram morphine pills were missing. Sheriff Tony DeMeo was alerted to the situation at 11:35 p.m. Friday. By Saturday, police had search warrants for Horns person, his patrol car and his home.
When the search warrants were served, Horn happened to have just come back from a call to service at an elderly womans home; the sergeant allegedly coerced the woman to give him her pain medication.
This guy testified against people he busted and he's doing the same damn thing.

PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) -
Authorities in Nye County believe a deputy took prescription drugs from the sheriff's office as well as medication from a woman while responding to a call.
According to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Michael Horn was detained Saturday, accused of taking morphine pills from a holding room at a sheriff's station the day before.
In addition, the sheriff's office accused Horn of confiscating prescription drugs when he responded to an elderly woman's report of noise outside her home Saturday morning.
The sheriff's office said detectives learned of Horn pressing a deputy to turn prescriptions over to him rather than booking them into evidence.

Killer croc snatches 12-year-old boy swimming with pals in Australia
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/27/22468469-killer-croc-snatches-12-year-old-boy-swimming-with-pals-in-australia?liteAustralian police are hunting a killer crocodile that they believe snatched a 12-year-old boy while he was swimming with his friends.
Police said Monday that officers have been given orders to shoot any crocodile more than eight feet long in a bid to find the boys remains. They have so far killed two of the animals but neither had anything in their stomachs.
Northern Territory Police said in a statement the boy was swimming in the Mudginberri Billabong, a creek in the Kakadu National Park, in Australias Northern Territory. They said they believe he was taken at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.
"It is believed the 12-year-old boy was taken by a crocodile as he and a number of other young boys were swimming in the billabong," Acting Commander Michael White said.
This is horrible, I hope they find his body soon so the family can lay him to rest.
Found a young Burrowing Owl at my doorstep last night, recommedations please!
Went to lock the storm door last night and on our front porch was a juvenile Burrowing Owl, it allowed me to pick it up and bring it inside.
I know that it's illegal to keep, so, what should I do with it? Release it to face it's destiny or try to find a rehabber?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
For those that have ever rescued a sparrow or starling,
here is some great info on how to feed and raise them.
http://www.starlingtalk.com/babycare.htm
My wife and I now have 4 sparrows, 3 males, 1 female and 1 female starling we rescued appox. 2 years ago, unfortunately, we couldn't release them as the imprinted on us and wouldn't have survived in the wild.
The 4 sparrows have their own room with their cages left open to come and go and the starling is in our room.
These birds really are a joy to keep, especially the sparrows, they are very smart and funny and they give us hours of joy just to be around them.
