My fave

"I wouldn't belong to a club that would have me as a member."

I hope you're right

We need her. It's that simple and that profound at the same time.

Other than the obvious (that Warren be elected), my only hope is that her opponent.be a hard right crackpot (please forgive the redundancy) like Ryan or Cruz or Paul so it will be abundantly clear for all to see that the post-1980 pillaging of our country by the right is over and that the screwing over of working families in the name of trickle down Reaganomics is over. They've had their 30+ years to fuck us over and did a fine job of doing just that. Now it's our turn to return the favor, and the place to start is with the repeal of our tax laws in their entirety, to be replaced with a simplified tax code whose central point will be if you make a lot, you pay a lot.

Cheers trivia

In an early episode of Cheers, the "gang" is talking about pets in the wake of the death of Diane's cat, Elizabeth Barrett Cat. At one point Diane says, "There's a big difference between a cat and a fish!" What is Carla's retort?

Hint -- Cat lovers are not gonna like the answer.

Are you ready for some awesomeness?

My favorite song, set to an amazing vid:

Have to disagree

IMO, the perfect music for the late '70s was The Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, and their lesser known brethren.

Anybody else here attend the old Murray the K shows at the Brooklyn Fox Theater?

I was really young, like 11 years old, but I attended these shows every chance I got. Saw acts like the Shirelles (the gold standard of the girl groups against whom all other girl groups were measured), the Shangri-las, Jerry Butler, all of the great acts of the pre-Beatles era. These shows featured "oldies" like The Platters and The Coasters. But my faves were "Murray the K's Dancing Girls", who sang a little ditty called Be My Baby and went on to call themselves The Ronettes. They handed out free LPs to listen to while watching the submarine races. Ah, those were the days. Mantle v. Mays v. Snider. Nathan's French fries. Listening to the weekly countdown of the Top 10 on your transistor radio to see if the 4 Seasons were gonna be unseated from their seemingly endless run of #1 hits. And they were. By Paul & Paula. YUCK! My fondest memory of my childhood has to be taking the subway up to the Bronx to see the Yanks and my idol, the Mick, play ball. I fought to the death anyone who said Mays or Snider was the better centerfielder. Nothing will ever change my love for the Mick. But I have come to realize that, not only was Willie the best CFer in NY, when you talk about the best players to ever play the game, Willie Mays has to be part of the discussion. And I never got to see him play (except on TV, of course).

Muffins

If you love muffins, you have to try Uncle Willy's mini muffins. They're new to my area (upstate NY), I first discovered them about 3 or 4 months ago.

Getting to the point -- if these muffins are available in your area, pick up a package of 12. They come in corn and blueberry, the varieties I've had, and cinnamon. There might be a 4th variety I'm forgetting atm.

The label says it best -- "Rich and moist"

These muffins are to die for. Muffin lovers are sure to be very happy with their purchase

P.S. I am not employed by or in any way affiliated with Uncle Wally's. I just love their muffins so much, I felt compelled to share my discovery with all DUers. Enjoy!

Just off the top of my head...

The Greenhornes, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, Social Distortion, Mudcrutch, Green Day, The Maggots (Swedish garage punk band, not the metal band of the same name), The BellRays and The Chesterfield Kings spring to mind.

About brooklynboy49

I always vote Democratic (or, on a few occasions, for third party candidates). While there was a Liberal ticket in NY, I cast my votes on the Liberal ticket. I have only pulled the lever for my presidential vote enthusiastically twice -- For George McGovern, the first time I voted in 1972, and for Walter Mondale in 1984. On all other occasions, my votes were cast against the Republican candidate more than they were cast for the Democrat. I believe in capitalism. Heavily regulated capitalism. I also believe that if we did three things, most of our problems would be solved and we would live in a socially and economically just society. Those three things being radical tax reform, radical campaign finance reform and radical health care reform (a single payer, non-profit system). Our day will come. Unfortunately, it will come after I\'m dead lol :(
