Season 1 didnt set out to drive you to subreddits looking for answers; that was a result of meditating on a meticulously thought-out story delivered in increments, when so much of what we watch is available in binge format. It was so rich that it took on a life of its own, an online vitality that created a second story of viewer interaction and hypothesizing. We created our own companion piece, a collaborative effort of web trawls and deep-reads of sci-fi wed never encountered before, and the way it sparked our imaginations was a testament to how much trust wed placed in Pizzolatto himself to guide us toward our final destination (or entrust him to let others take the wheel). As Molly Lambert pointed out in her summary of the first season and its finale, this was a story about a journey, not a set of questions with corresponding and satisfying answers. What conclusions it offered couldnt possibly satisfy the curiosity it had implanted in our collective consciousness, but it was never really about answers in the first place. One things for sure: If next season is anything like the last, itll all be about the kicks we get on the way there, and the ones we scribble while were on the road.

President Obama's perspective

First Amendment Icon Larry Flynt Endorses Hillary!
Larry Flynt, no stranger to the workings of the Federal judicial branch, makes some very succinct points regarding the presidential race in 2016.
His observation the right-leaning Supreme Court is the new legislative branch in light of the ongoing dysfunction of Congress reminds us of the critical importance of this next presidential election.
2 or 3 new justices over the next 5-9 years will be a Democratic victory in 2 out of 3 branches of government!
Fleetwood Mac? Not this time!
Some more facts for today.
As the BS continues to pile up "out there."
CNN/ORC poll results as follows:
Against Republicans
In general, Republicans see Bush as the best possible candidate to match up against the Democratic nominee in 2016, but in hypothetical general election matchups against Clinton, Bush trails by a large margin, as do each of the other seven Republicans tested.
Marco Rubio fares best against the former first lady, trailing Clinton by 14 points, 55% to 41%. Bush trails Clinton by 17 points, 56% to 39%. Christie and Paul fall 19 points behind Clinton, each putting up 39% to Clinton's 58%. Huckabee, Walker, Carson and Cruz each trail Clinton by more than 20 points.
Against Democrats
Clinton declared her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president with a web video and promptly hit the road to Iowa and New Hampshire. Her campaign begins in an extremely strong position among Democrats nationwide: nearly 7 in 10 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents support her. Overall, 69% back the former secretary of state over Vice President Joe Biden (11%), Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (5%), former Virginia senator Jim Webb (3%), former Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee (1%) and former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley (1%). Clinton is also the second choice of just over half of the Democrats who prefer someone else for the nomination. All told, Clinton is the first or second choice of 83% of the potential Democratic electorate.

We the people still support the death penalty.
But we're getting better! From Pew Research Center:
A majority of Americans favor the death penalty for those convicted of murder, but support for the death penalty is as low as it has been in the past 40 years. A new Pew Research Center survey finds 56% favor the death penalty for people convicted of murder, while 38% are opposed.
The share supporting the death penalty has declined six percentage points, from 62%, since 2011. Throughout much of the 1980s and 90s, support for the death penalty often surpassed 70%. In a 1996 survey, 78% favored the death penalty, while just 18% were opposed.
Democrats are less supportive. Yaaayyyy, Democrats!!!
Much of the decline in support over the past two decades has come among Democrats. Currently, just 40% of Democrats favor the death penalty, while 56% are opposed. In 1996, Democrats favored capital punishment by a wide margin (71% to 25%).
There has been much less change in opinions among Republicans: 77% favor the death penalty, down from 87% in 1996. The share of independents who favor the death penalty has fallen 22 points over this period, from 79% to 57%.
Liberal Democrats are way less supportive. Yaaayyy, liberals!
Democrats continue to be ideologically divided over the death penalty. Nearly half of conservative and moderate Democrats (48%) favor it, compared with 29% of liberals. Among Republicans, conservative Republicans are as likely as moderate and liberal Republicans to favor the death penalty (77% each).
Innocent people get put to death? Probably...
Death penalty supporters overwhelmingly view it as morally justified: 90% say that when someone commits a crime like murder, the death penalty is morally justified. Just 26% of death penalty opponents view it as morally justified.
Yet the differences between death penalty supporters and opponents are not as stark when it comes to other opinions about capital punishment. A large majority (84%) of those who oppose the death penalty say there is a risk that an innocent person will be put to death; so too do 63% of death penalty supporters.
