Choudary: "Pope should sentence to death for insulting Islam or embrace Islam"

He went on to say that Pope Benedict deserved to die for comments he believed are an insult to Islam. But, he added, "that needs to be assessed by a judge in the Sharia, or Islamic state (IS, ISIS)." If the Pope were to embrace Islam, he added, all would be forgiven. In 2006, Benedict made a statement that angered many Muslims and prompted an apology from the Vatican.

“The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul,” he said.

“God…is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably is contrary to God’s nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death,” he added, quoting the long-dead Christian Emperor Paleologus. At the time, CNN reported that "thousands of Palestinians marched in Gaza, demanding an apology."

Choudary continued, telling Trento that "Islam is the future," inviting him to become a Muslim. "You save yourself and your children from hellfire," he added.

Kosher market attack deepens fears among European Jews

The killing of four French Jews in last week's hostage standoff at a Paris kosher market has deepened the fears among European Jewish communities shaken by rising anti-Semitism and feeling vulnerable due to poor security and a large number of potential soft targets.

In the wake of the attacks, which follow deadly strikes on a Belgian Jewish Museum and a Jewish school in southwestern France, Israeli leaders have called on European Jews to immigrate to the Jewish state. But European Jews are deeply ambivalent about leaving, and their community leaders, along with top politicians, have urged people to stay in their homelands.

"The European Jewry is the oldest European minority and we have our experience of surviving under all possible circumstances," Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress, told The Associated Press. "We will not give up our motherland, which is called Europe. We will not stop the history of European Jewry, that is for sure."

Kantor called for increased security at Jewish sites, concerted action against anti-Semitism across the continent and better coordination of intelligence forces against religious extremism. But he acknowledged that if any Jewish European does not feel safe, "I say you should leave in this case."

Netanyahu in Paris: Our Common Enemy is Radical Islam

“Although the various factions of Islamic extremism are involved in their own local bloody conflicts, including among themselves, they are all driven from the same ambition: to impose a dark despotic regime on the world, to take humanity a thousand years backward. They trample anyone who does not share their beliefs, and at the top of the list are their fellow Muslims, but their greatest hatred is reserved for Western culture, the same culture that respects freedom, equal rights, all the things they so despise,” said Netanyahu.

“Therefore, it is no coincidence that radical Islam has been seeking to destroy Israel since its inception - because Israel is the only Western democracy in the Middle East, because Israel is the only place where Christians, women and minorities are truly safe, the only place which respects human rights in general.

“Well, here's another truth: radical Islam does not hate the West because of Israel. It hates Israel because it is an organic part of the West. It sees Israel, and rightly so, as an island of democracy, justice and Western tolerance in a sea of fanaticism and violence that it wants to impose on the Middle East, Europe and the world,” continued Netanyahu.

Israel, he stressed, is attacked “because of its very existence and essence. But not only we are being attacked. Look around you: the whole world is under attack, the whole world. The World Trade Center in New York, the subways in London and Madrid, tourists in Bali, school children in Russia and Pakistan, a hotel in Mumbai, a shopping mall in Nairobi.”

There is a price for living in a free society

As for our politicians, they go around saying “Islam is a religion of peace”, which they would not need to repeat if they believed it. Under Labour, we came close to conceding a fully fledged law forbidding blasphemy (“religious hatred”) and we introduced the repressive concept of a “religiously aggravated” crime.

Before she resigned from the Government over Gaza last year, the Muslim peer Lady Warsi worked with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, which wants a worldwide ban on insulting religions. She supported the UN Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18, which would declare an attack on a faith to be an unacceptable affront to its adherents and vice versa. She was on television after the Paris murders, saying that they were “an attack on Islam”. It seems a funny way to look at it (though two Muslims were among those murdered, I do not think that is what she meant).

As for civil society in general, we have tended to tiptoe round the problem. The media deplored the death threats that followed the (genuinely un-nasty) Danish cartoons, but did not publish them. We say “Nous sommes Charlie”, but fight shy of reprinting the magazine’s Mohammed gags, so readers never quite know what the story is about. Employers worry about their staff’s safety. Some even fear upsetting Muslim newsagents. Terrorism is working.

All this has created a chasm between public doctrine and what the public can see is the case. It is not for politicians to make theological statements. Like all the main religions, Islam is rich, deep and complex and will probably outlast our system of government. But what our leaders can and should do is insist that there is a price for living in a free society, and all citizens must pay it.

French Premier Declares ‘War’ on Radical Islam as Paris Girds for Rally

Source: NYT--2 hours ago

Prime Minister Manuel Valls declared Saturday that France was at war with radical Islam after the harrowing sieges that had led to the deaths of three gunmen and four hostages the day before, and as the authorities mounted a frantic hunt for a suspected accomplice.

“It is a war against terrorism, against jihadism, against radical Islam, against everything that is aimed at breaking fraternity, freedom, solidarity,” Mr. Valls said during a speech in Évry, south of Paris.

France remained on high alert a day after security forces killed Amedy Coulibaly, who the police said was responsible for the deaths of four hostages at a kosher supermarket near the Porte de Vincennes in eastern Paris on Friday, and Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, the brothers who had fatally shot 12 people on Wednesday in and around the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper.

The government said it would put 500 additional troops on the streets over the weekend amid preparations for a giant unity rally in Paris on Sunday. A number of European officials said they would attend, including Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey, the most prominent Muslim leader scheduled to be there. On Saturday, thousands of people marched in Paris, Toulouse and Nice in a show of solidarity, and rallies were held in places as far away as Madagascar and Bangui, Central African Republic.

100,000 Jews Have Fled Paris Since 2013.

Jews are fleeing terror-hit Paris because of growing anti-Semitism in France, one of Britain's most influential Jewish journalists said today.

Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, spoke out after an Islamic terrorist took six people hostage and held them captive in a Kosher supermarket in the French capital.

This afternoon police ordered all shops in a famous Jewish neighborhood in central Paris to close.

The mayor's office in Paris announced the closure of shops along the Rosiers street in Paris' Marais neighborhood, in the heart of the tourist district and less than a mile away from the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo where 12 people were killed on Wednesday.

How to Answer the Paris Terror Attack By Ayaan Hirsi Ali

After the horrific massacre Wednesday at the French weekly satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, perhaps the West will finally put away its legion of useless tropes trying to deny the relationship between violence and radical Islam.

This was not an attack by a mentally deranged, lone-wolf gunman. This was not an "un-Islamic" attack by a bunch of thugs--the perpetrators could be heard shouting that they were avenging the Prophet Muhammad. Nor was it spontaneous. It was planned to inflict maximum damage, during a staff meeting, with automatic weapons and a getaway plan. It was designed to sow terror, and in that it has worked.

The West is duly terrified. But it should not be surprised.

If there is a lesson to be drawn from such a grisly episode, it is that what we believe about Islam truly doesn't matter. This type of violence, jihad, is what they, the Islamists, believe.

*****

There can only be one answer to this hideous act of jihad against the staff of Charlie Hebdo. It is the obligation of the Western media and Western leaders, religious and lay, to protect the most basic rights of freedom of expression, whether in satire on any other form. The West must not appease, it must not be silenced. We must send a united message to the terrorists: Your violence cannot destroy our soul.

Anti-Islamic protests spread across Europe

Germany has become the latest European country to witness mass anti-Islamic protests that have grown increasingly common across the continent.

"In Europe in general, there is an anxiety, an anti-Islamic phobia, developing," said left-wing activist and Green euro MP Daniel Cohn-Bendit.

He was referring to the latest protests by the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (Pegida) group that gathered an unprecedented 18 000 supporters to their rally in Dresden on Monday.

Pegida, which was launched only in October, rails against a range of enemies - not just Islam, but also the media ("all those liars&quot and the political elite - that they accuse of diluting Germany's Christian culture.

They have won support from admirers abroad, such as Tommy Robinson, former head of the far-right anti-Islamic English Defence League.

The Daily Telegraph has also obtained photos that show Man Haron Monis locked in discussion with radical Ismail al-Wahwah, the leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia.

The two were snapped together at a rally in front of the Egyptian consulate in Surry Hills.

“He spent two hours talking to (Hizb ut-Tahrir) people at the rally,” said a source who attended the demonstration.
