The Mongolian born rikishi won his first Makuuchi tournament with a 12 and 3 record. The maegashira #2s record included a gold star win over Yokozuna Terunofuji on day 5 of the tournament.
Yokozuna Terunofuji wins the May Sumo Tournament in Tokyo
This is his seventh tournament victory. He finished the tournament with 12 wins and 3 losses.
Spring Basho Finally
Sekiwake Wakatakakage defeats Maegashira 7 Takayasu in a playoff match to win the Emperor’s Cup at the Spring Basho in Osaka Japan. Both Rikishi had finished the tournament with 12 -3 records.
Terunofuji wins the May Grand Sumo Tournament
The Mongolian born Rikishi was prompted to Ozeki after winning the March tournament. He defeated Ozeki Takakeisho in a play off match after Takakeisho had beaten him in the final match of the tournament. This tied their win/loss record and forced a play off match for the Championship.

Terunofuji wins the March Grand Sumo Tournament
This is the 3rd Tournament the Sekawake has won. In other news, Yokozuna Kakuryu had announced his retirement from Sumo. The other current Yokozuna, Hakuho withdrew from the March tournament after two wins due to ligament damage. Surgery is required and he may not be recover in time for the June Tournament
The March Grand Sumo Tournament Banzuke is out
Yokozunas Hakuho and Karuryu will wrestle. Shodai has been promoted to Ozeki.
The Tournament will be held in Osaka from March 14th through the 28th
