Iran is using American-made F-4 Phantom jets purchased during the time of the Shah to bomb positions held by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in eastern Iraq, CBS News correspondent David Martin reports.
The United States is aware of the strikes in Diyala province, which are flown in support of Iraqi ground troops, but there's no coordination going on and none is needed, Martin reports.
The air space is controlled by Iraq, so Iraqi authorities are in charge of traffic control. Diyala is northeast of Baghdad in a part of the country where the U.S. is not operating.

3: Paranormal Activity. Okay, the final 46 seconds were scary. That is, if you stayed awake that long! (Addendum: Ladies, I get the paradigm in horror movies. You are clued in very early on, while we are totally dumbassed, often until it's too late. I accept that. But Micah Sloat was THE stupidest motherfucking IDIOT I've ever seen! I wanted to start a men's rights group just to protest that character!)
2. When Harry Met Sally. (Also my #1 Overrated Movie of All Time.) The gal I was dating at the time (not the ex mentioned above) and I both agreed that it was a routine, formulaic Boy Meets Girl Falls In Love With Girl Loses Girl But Gets Girl Back At The End snoozefest.

Small Canadian Town Terrorized.....by Ducks
And I don't mean Anaheim hockey players, either.
Mobs of ducks have made themselves at home in the small town of Burin, N.L., and a number of residents feel they've outlasted their welcome, CBC News reported Thursday.
At one point, the ducks were a pleasant spectacle in the tiny tourist town, but their numbers have grown, and they have been pestering residents, blocking traffic and harassing people for food.
"If I'm coming home with my groceries, they're looking in the bags," resident Kimberley Cross told the network.
"They're chasing me, looking in the bags, like, 'What do you got for me today?'"

NOAA: 2014 is shaping up as hottest year on record

(CNN) -- The first ten months of 2014 have been the hottest since record keeping began more than 130 years ago, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
That may be hard to believe for people in places like Buffalo, New York, which saw a record early snowfall this year.
But NOAA says, despite the early bitter cold across parts of the United States in recent weeks, it's been a hot year so far for the Earth.
With two months left on the calendar, 2014 is shaping up to be the hottest year on record.
The average global temperature between January and October has been 0.68 degrees Celsius (1.22 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than the 20th century's average global temperature of 14.1 C (57.4 F).

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The mayor of Ferguson, Missouri, says police Officer Darren Wilson will not receive a severance package as part of his resignation from the police force.
Mayor James Knowles said Sunday that the St. Louis suburb and Wilson have severed their ties and that Wilson won't receive any further pay or benefits following his resignation Saturday.

I'm laughing as I type, but really shouldn't be. Just got off the phone with Bryan, a friend of mine in Leeds, England. He was an exchange student at San Diego State (AZTECS ROCK!) while I was there, and we've maintained contact over the years. I just got off the phone with him. He called me after getting home from the pub (I thought they closed at 11 PM local over there?) and had obviously had many pints. The above-quoted question was in reaction to last Tuesday's election. (He follows our politics closely.) We talked about the across-the board Republican gains: House, Senate, Governorships, even state legislatures.
I didn't really answer him because I didn't know how; I don't think I'm dumb, I don't think most of my friends are dumb, and based on what I've seen here thus far, I don't think the people on this board are dumb.
But how could I argue (based on the midterm results) that we as Americans are not collectively dumb? "Stupid is as stupid does," as Forrest Gump said. (I HATED that movie, btw, but that's a different matter.) I told Bryan I'll e-mail him tomorrow.
What should I say? Does anyone here have any ideas? Because I sure as hell don't!

Budapest, Hungary (CNN) -- "The flirtation of young girls can often trigger violence."
That's the message from police in Baranya County, Hungary, as part of a campaign to raise awareness against rape. As if that wasn't enough, the message was paired with a video showing a young woman being approached by a hooded man outside a nightclub. The young woman is then shown lying on the ground.
Several Hungarian advocacy groups are now voicing "dismay" with the regional police department's efforts, saying the campaign blames women, rather than characterizing them as potential victims who should be protected.
"
The video) scares and humiliates the victims and exonerates the perpetrators to go unpunished," the groups said in a joint statement. "... These kind of films evoke misogyny and contempt for women."
