Report: White supremacist propaganda on college campuses doubled in 2019

From the article:

White supremacist groups doubled down on colleges and universities across the country in 2019, blanketing campuses and off-campus haunts with propaganda, according to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism.

The report found a total of 2,713 cases of leafleting on and off campus — an average of more than seven per day nationwide, compared with 1,214 in 2018. That makes it the highest year on record for such activity in the United States.

But while white supremacist groups are using old-fashioned methods — plastering buildings, bulletin boards and bridge overhangs with flyers, stickers, posters and banners — their messages are far more subtle, the report says.

Given how the white supremacist in chief acts, this is sad but not surprising.

Could the Republican Party really change? And, would they want to change?

I think a great case can be made that, since 1968, the GOP has been the Party that embraces racism, and relies on the votes of racists to win in the American South, and among racist voters everywhere.

The racism of the GOP was informally codified with Nixon's "Southern strategy", which rather openly spoke to the resentment of white people who felt that the Civil Rights Act was unnecessary, and saw it as an attack on their privilege.

Reagan, of course, spoke to the racists first, by opening his Presidential campaign in Philadelphia Mississippi, an area noted for open KKK activity. Plus, in his many attacks on welfare queens, Reagan abandoned the dog whistle for a bull horn.

Bush Sr., of course, had his Willie Horton ads.

Of Trump, no more needs to be said, other than he abandoned the bull horn for Twitter.

At this point, after over 50 years of the GOP being the party for racists, how could the GOP abandon the deplorable base of their deplorable Party and become a legitimate conservative Party?

Speaking of redlining, and the 2008 bank meltdown, and the 2009 Mike Bloomberg.

These are separate, but related issues.

First:
Redlining refers to the practice of literally drawing a red line around majority minority neighborhoods. It was done in Chicago, where, in minority neighborhoods, banks would not make mortgage loans, and, insurance companies would not insure properties. These 2 actions made it very difficult for minorities to receive mortgages, and it made it very difficult for businesses to open stores in those same neighborhoods because even white owned businesses could not purchase insurance for their businesses.

Second:
The 2008 financial services meltdown, or bubble collapse, was caused in large part by banks making toxic loans. The financial people at these banks knew that these loans had repayment structures that virtually guaranteed that large numbers of loan holders would never be able to pay off the loans.

And the banks did not care because they knew that in the speculative bubble, they could always re-sell the loans, or foreclose and re-sell the properties. It was a win/win situation because the real estate speculative bubble was generating huge numbers of primary mortgages and refinances.

When Bloomberg spoke about redlining and banks being supposedly forced to make bad loans, he was either ignorant of what was happening, or he was promoting the victim blaming narrative that blamed poor people for being victimized by unscrupulous lenders.

Sorry Mr. Bloomberg, but that right wing narrative of blaming the victims and excusing financial fraud was exposed years ago.

The not so hidden racism implicit in every "stop and frisk" policy.

It is claimed by many that stop and frisk reduces crime. And in a very limited sense, that can be true. But when the right speaks of crime, they never mean the trillions of dollars worth of white collar crime that takes place in this country. They do not mean systemic bank fraud, or securities fraud, or election fraud.

They mean low level drug possession crimes and violence crime, and mainly the crime that takes place in non-white areas of the large cities.

We do not see stop and frisk applied in rural areas with high rates of drug abuse, and where much of the methamphetamine supply is manufactured.

We do not see stop and frisk applied to crooked financiers.

We do not see stop and frisk applied to manufacturers who violate the law by releasing toxins into the air.

We do not see stop and frisk applied to big businesses that specifically hire undocumented aliens to work in their factories.

No, stop and frisk is reserved for non-white urban areas.

Funny how that happens.

'The Saddest Thing Is That This Won't Be Breaking News': Concentration of CO2 Hits Record High....

From the article:

'The Saddest Thing Is That This Won't Be Breaking News': Concentration of CO2 Hits Record High of 416 ppm

The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere hit a record high Monday, a reading from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that elicited fresh calls from climate activists and scientists for the international community to end planet-heating emissions from fossil fuels and deforestation.

And on the GOP side, there are calls to dig more coal and drill for more oil. The rich prefer to focus on the next quarter's profits rather than leaving a safe planet for the next generations.

lhan Omar Unveils Bold Proposal for US Foreign Policy 'Deeply Rooted in Justice'

From the article:

The plan calls for the U.S. to cease the "go-it-alone" strategy that has dominated the country's foreign policy for decades and to instead seek rapprochement with other countries and to prioritize human rights and other areas of global cooperation.

Path to PEACE includes seven pieces of legislation calling for Congressional approval of sanctions, the end of arms sales to human rights violators, and instituting policies aimed at protecting and promoting rights of children, among other issues.

"The United States can be an agent of peace and end the global refugee crisis if we elect members of Congress who will make this a priority," tweeted Jetpac executive director Mohammed Missouri.

The Amy Klochubar Surge Is Real As Late Deciders Break Her Way In New Hampshire

From the article:

The results of the New Hampshire primary are just starting to come in, but one thing is already clear: Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is surging into the top three on a wave of support from late deciders....

But after Friday’s Democratic debate in which Klobuchar turned in her strongest performance yet, her numbers have been rising in New Hampshire in a way that polling might not have fully captured in the final couple of days.

So far, after one caucus, and one primary,

involving a tiny percentage of the electorate, what do we really know for certain about who the eventual nominee will be?

True, the media, ever alert for the chance to use the "Democrats in disarray" meme, will be quick to tell us all what to think, and how this candidate or that candidate is:

fatally weakened,

on the ropes,

energized and unstoppable,

totally disorganized

or another tired, stale, and silly so-called insight.

But only a handful of voters have actually spoken by casting a vote. And yes, there will be probably a trillion or so polls cited here, and by the media, to support their 1,001 theories of who will win and what will happen.

In the meantime, get out and register people.

Talk to people.

Canvass for a candidate, or candidates.

Hold a house party.

Donate.

And remember that we are the majority, and the GOP fears our votes, which is why they spend so much time, money, and effort trying to prevent us from voting.

Is it reasonable to now refer to every Trump Administration member as a co-conspirator?

It is obvious that, for every Cabinet member, the main goal is to dismember their respective Departments and render the Government incapable of exercising any real regulatory oversight.

At this point, the AG is acting as the attack dog for the President. He decides who will be investigated, and that means that only Democrats will be investigated.

So can we simply refer to all of them, including every GOP Congressperson, as a co-conspirator?
