guillaumeb's JournalThe new NRA president is a deep-state thug
From the article:
For one thing, hes perfect for an organization that needs to step up its trolling game. The NRA relies on generating outrage in order to make its members feel under siege so they...buy more guns.

Convicted felon Oliver North was a part of the GHW Bush team of thugs who helped Reagan win the White House by committing treason. What better person to be the ceremonial head of the NRA?
Wypipo? Really? Is this really an issue for anyone?
It is shorthand, and in a debate it has little use, but who here is so thin skinned that this term is really an issue?
We all know, (or those of us who are aware know), that the colonies, and later the US, were founded on structural, and institutional, and legal racism. Slaves built the South, slaves sent the raw materials to northern factories that paid lower costs to the plantation owners because of that same slave labor. North and South both benefitted from slavery.
And even though a civil war was fought in this country, slavery was simply renamed prison plantation labor and the same former slaves were now called convicts. Again, slaves by another name contributed to the wealth of this country while enjoying nothing.
So when I read the term wypipo, should I or anyone be offended? No.
Why?
None of my ancestors were slaves.
None of my ancestors were kidnapped from their homes and brought here naked in chains.
None of my ancestors were forced to give up their religion, their language, their heritage, their very names.
None of my ancestors were forced to sit in the back of a bus, denied the vote, lynched, imprisoned for existing while black.
Thoughts?
Trump normalizes racism?
Of course he does. He has done so ever since he refused to rent to black tenants, and when he called for the execution of the Central Park 5. He did so with his constant questioning of Barack Obama's citizenship.
Before Trump, George Bush Jr. normalized racism as he framed Muslims as terrorists and as he ignored the black inhabitants of New Orleans after the hurricane covered large parts of New Orleans.
Before Bush Jr., Bush Senior normalized racism with his deliberate choice of the Willie Horton ads that were designed by notorious racist Lee Atwater.
Before Bush Sr., Ronald Reagan normalized racism with his constant references to welfare queens, and states rights.
Before Reagan, Richard Nixon normalized racism when he employed his Southern strategy to frame the GOP as standing up for segregation and unequal treatment.
The same GOP strategy, simply a different year.

The late Edward Said wrote about Orientalism. In my opinion, that description fits Mr. Lewis very well.
Good news: Europe: Not as secular as you think
From the article:

What can I say?
What should I say?
What does thousands of years of history show us?
Why do white people keep calling the cops?
From the article:
But this spring, cell phone video of a slightly different kind is revealing something else thats impossible to ignore: White people calling the cops or threatening to on people of color... ..
These videos show if there was any doubt left that the problem with people of color in these places isnt our behavior. Its our very presence.

The police in the US rose out of the old slave patrols. 400 years later, that same function, to control non-white bodies, is still being performed.
Hijab and Struggles of Pleasing Society
From the article:
My Choice, Alone
I have been wearing hijab (head scarf) since 1986. It has been a blessed 32 years. I wouldnt have it any other way. The choice to wear hijab was mine, and mine alone.

Roseanne Barr for President?
Now that the Presidential Barr (not a typo) has been lowered so far that only a coal miner could find it, is it conceivable that Roseanne Barr will run for President?
Unlike Trump, Barr has some comedic talent, but she is a racist clown, and the GOP big tent has its share and more of racist clowns.
Richard Paul Evans' fake news about feminism
From the article:
It hasnt been a terrific week for Mormon novelist Richard Paul Evans, author of The Christmas Box and other bestsellers.
First, there were the accusations of sexual harassment, which erupted on Monday. A female author had accused Evans months ago of being overly physical with her last year at FanX, which is the huge annual Comic Con in Salt Lake City.....
Then, in an effort to defend himself against those charges, Evans was interviewed by KUTV in Salt Lake. He succeeded only in digging himself in deeper.
