Richardson Couple: Someone Killed Our Dog Over Clinton Sign

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) – A Richardson couple thinks a series of cruel attacks on their home is the result of a Hillary Clinton campaign sign in their front yard.

Matt Steadman says he wasn’t surprised when three separate signs were stolen from their yard almost as fast as he put them out.

“I just kind of thought ‘oh well the third sign is still there no big deal,’ ” said Steadman.

But last week that third sign was also taken, followed by an ominous note left under the doormat.

“It said ‘Hillary for Prison 2016,’ ” Steadman said.

The next day the family’s SUV was vandalized to the point an auto shop said it’s unrepairable.

“Smelled the inside of my gas tank and there was bleach,” said Steadman. “I’ve never heard about bleach and gas tanks and cars.”

This chart reveals the inhumanity of US drug prices compared to other countries

Corrupt former hedge funder Martin Shkreli — who hiked the price of an AIDS pill by 5500 percent overnight — is only the latest example of price gouging in the pharmaceutical industry. But US drug prices have been skyrocketing across the country for years. As the following chart illustrates, drug prices in the US are up to 10 times higher than in numerous other developed countries. Data comes from the International Federation of Health Plans (IFHP) 2013 Comparative Price Report.

Complaint: Citing Catholic Rules, Doctor Turns Away Bleeding Woman With Dislodged IUD

Aug 23, 2016, 6:23pm Amy Littlefield

“It felt heartbreaking,” said Melanie Jones. “It felt like they were telling me that I had done something wrong, that I had made a mistake and therefore they were not going to help me; that they stigmatized me, saying that I was doing something wrong, when I’m not doing anything wrong. I’m doing something that’s well within my legal rights.”

Melanie Jones arrived for her doctor’s appointment bleeding and in pain. Jones, 28, who lives in the Chicago area, had slipped in her bathroom, and suspected the fall had dislodged her copper intrauterine device (IUD).

Her doctor confirmed the IUD was dislodged and had to be removed. But the doctor said she would be unable to remove the IUD, citing Catholic restrictions followed by Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and providers within its system.

“I think my first feeling was shock,” Jones told Rewire in an interview. “I thought that eventually they were going to recognize that my health was the top priority.”

Army pulls training slide that named Clinton as 'threat'

CNN)The US Army said Wednesday it was a mistake for a local unit to identify Hillary Clinton as a potential threat during a training presentation and has halted the practice.
A slide from the presentation, which was widely circulated online this week after it was posted on a Facebook group page, showed the former secretary of state beneath photos of Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden, Gen. David Petraeus and Nidal Hassan under the headline: "Who is the threat? Insiders."

"We have confirmed that the slide was developed 18 months ago and used locally as a part of a training presentation on best practices for handling classified material and maintaining operational security," the US Army Training and Doctrine Command said in a statement. "As is common with Army training requirements, the local unit was given latitude to develop their own training products to accomplish the overall training objective."
"This particular presentation had not been reviewed or approved by the unit's leadership, and does not reflect the position of the Army," the statement continued. "The training presentation has since been removed."
The slide was used at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, according to reports.
Clinton's inclusion would appear to be inspired by her use of a private email server during her four years at the State Department. While FBI Director James Comey said in July that Clinton's actions were "extremely careless," he recommended that no criminal charges be brought against her and none were.

Fourth grader suspended for bringing his 'one ring' to school

ODESSA, TX --
A fourth grade boy in Odessa, Texas has been suspended from school for making a terroristic threat. He told another boy that he had a magic ring and could make him disappear.

The boy's father, Jason Steward, tells the New York Daily News that he took his son to see "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" last weekend. He says his son brought a ring to class at Kermit Elementary School and acted out a scene from the movie, telling another boy his magic ring could make the boy disappear.

The principal was called and immediately suspended the nine-year-old, the Odessa American reports, saying threats to another child's safety would not be tolerated - whether they are magical or not.

The principal now says she can't comment on the matter because quote, "All student stuff is confidential."

Steward says the principal sent the boy for making a terroristic threat with a magic ring. Steward told her his son lacked the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend's existence, but even if he had those powers, he's sure his son would bring his friend right back.

After jacking up EpiPen prices, pharma CEO boosted her salary to almost $19 million

As outrage sweeps across the Internet at the price hike for the life-saving EpiPen, it turns out that prices weren’t the only thing to skyrocket at the pharma company Mylan.

According to a report from NBC News, from 2007 to 2015, Mylan CEO Heather Bresch’s salary went from $2,453,456 to $18,931,068, a 671 percent increase.

During that same period, Mylan raised EpiPen prices from $56.64 to $317.82, a 461 percent increase.

NBC News reports that in 2007, Mylan bought the rights to the device, which uses a medication called epinephrine to stop potentially fatal allergic reactions in people. Starting in 2008, the company raised the price of EpiPens by 5 percent, then jacked it up to a 19 percent increase in 2009, and then another hike of 10 percent each year from 2010 to 2013.

Staring in the fourth quarter of 2013 to the second quarter of 2016, “Mylan steadily raised EpiPen prices 15 percent every other quarter” with the stock price more than tripling from $13.29 in 2007 to a high of $47.59 in 2016.

Melania Trump threatens to sue news outlets (Over assertions that she was an "escort") CNN

Trump, the wife of the Republican presidential nominee, has placed The Daily Mail and other news organizations "on notice... for making false and defamatory statements about her supposedly having been an 'escort' in the 1990s," Charles Harder, a lawyer for Trump, said in a statement.

In addition, Harder said that he had put Politico on notice for "false and defamatory statements" regarding its reporting on Trump's immigration history. Politico confirmed that its reporters had been sent notices.

The notices come just three days after The Daily Mail, a UK publication, published a report citing a story in a Slovenian magazine that claimed a New York modeling agency that once represented Trump "also operated as an escort agency for wealthy clients." That report was then picked up or referenced by other news outlets.

The Real Meaning Of One Of The NRA’s Favorite Mottoes….’Molon Labe’

Molon Labe has become one of the favorite phrases of hard-core 2nd Amendment people who are paranoid that the government is coming to take their guns.

So what in the world is Molon Labe? Don’t feel bad if you don’t know. Unless you are a paranoid gun lover you’ve likely never heard the phrase.

Molon Labe is a classical Greek phrase meaning “Come and take [them].” And 2nd Amendment enthusiasts have adopted the phrase as a way to stand up to their imagined threat of the government coming to take away their guns.

Retired Army officer Allen West is a former Republican Congressman. He’s also one of those paranoid gun lovers. And he loves talking about Molon Labe.

In October West gave a speech in Florida where he explained just where the phrase came from. He told the story “of the 300 Spartans who fought to the death against an army of 10,000 Persians at the battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.” And then he asked the audience, “What is your Thermopylae? Where will you take a stand?”

The obvious implication is that gun lovers must stand up to the government.

Molon Labe is attributed to Spartan King Leonidas who defiantly stood up to an order by the Persian King requiring his Greek army to give up their weapons. He was trying to defend the Greek cities against an invasion by the Persians at a place called Thermopylae. And, even though the Greek army was massively outnumbered, they still stood firm and responded with Molon Labe.

So now, all these years later, gun lovers have adopted the phrase as their own. They are determined to never give up their guns and are challenging the government to just dare and try to confiscate their beloved weapons. Never mind that the government is not coming for their guns. They remain defiant and paranoid just the same.

Fox News Thinks Female Olympic Athletes Should Wear Makeup to “Look Beautiful” on the Podium

Should female Olympic athletes wear makeup? Can it make them feel more empowered and more like themselves during competition? After USA Today published an article on this subject last week, a Fox News show called Sports Court decided to take it on. This being Fox News, the commentators offered intelligent, well-reasoned, nuanced opinions on the matter.

Just kidding.

“Why should I have to look at some chick’s zits?” That pearl of wisdom came courtesy of media personality Bo Dietl.

The segment was probably doomed from the start. If host Tamara Holder wanted to have a sensible discussion about female athletes and makeup (and it’s not clear that she did—she started the discussion by declaring that “We all know the old adage, ‘sex sells’ ”), she probably shouldn’t have had on two men who don’t know the first thing about female athletes, makeup, or the Olympics. But encourage men to air their uninformed views she did: In addition to Dietl, commentator Mark Simone also offered up his thoughts.

Simone opened strong: “The whole point of the Olympics, the whole reason for this training, for this work to get there, is product endorsements.” No, dude, that is not the whole reason for the Olympics. Sure, endorsements are important to some athletes, but others take part in sports less visible than swimming or gymnastics and are thus less likely to earn major endorsement deals. It’s simply not accurate to say that every Olympic athlete is driven by the bags of money waiting on the other side of the medal podiums—especially women, who on the whole earn less than male athletes anyway.

In the original piece, USA Today’s focus was on whether makeup could be empowering for female athletes. Leave it to Fox News to sidestep that question and bring it back to looks. After the aforementioned charming zit comment, Dietl added, “I like to see a person who wins that gold medal go up there and look beautiful.” Their nod to gender equity was a suggestion that the men wear makeup too, so they look better. (Dietl also proved that he is well-qualified to talk about sports on TV by failing to remember Michael Phelps’ name, calling him “that skinny guy.”) Several times, the two men also turned the question onto host Holder, asking how she looks when she “crawl[s] out of bed in the morning.” “Look at you—you got great legs,” Dietl said to Holder at one point. This was before he criticized a hypothetical gold medal–winning female athlete who looked like a “washed-out rag.” He would not support such a woman, no siree.

Liar or Idiot? Yet Again, Donald Trump Poses the Eternal Question.

Ah, screw it. Here's Trump talking about how corporations ought to provide day care for their workers' kids:

The billionaire real estate mogul, who previously voiced his opposition to government-funded universal pre-K programs, said in Newton, Iowa, in November 2015 that he had visited many companies that offered workers on-site child-care centers — and added that he offered such programs himself.

"You know, it's not expensive for a company to do it. You need one person or two people, and you need some blocks, and you need some swings and some toys," Trump said. "It's not an expensive thing, and I do it all over. And I get great people because of it. Because it's a problem with a lot of other companies."

Trump pointed specifically to two programs: "They call 'em Trump Kids. Another one calls it Trumpeteers, if you can believe it.1 I have 'em. I actually have 'em, because I have a lot of different businesses."
