but in casinos, the odds are stacked in favor of the house. A casino license is almost literally a license to print money. In the 1990s, casinos in Atlantic City were booming, rolling in dough. How dumb do you have to be to lose money if you own the casino? Plus if you refuse to pay the contractors who created the casinos--think of the benefit to your bottom line there.
I think the big mystery about Trump's tax return is how in the hell he managed to lose so much money--how he managed to lose any money at all.
Why are we not challenging
every assertion that Donald Trump is a genius for his understanding and manipulation of the tax code--at the same time assuring us that we are too fucking dumb to understand its complexities? Trump isn't the genius here--his accountants are.
I like to imagine Don and Marla hunched over the kitchen table going through a shoebox of receipts, with a TI calculator at hand, stopping only now and then to kick the puppies.
virus?
I stupidly clicked on a banner that said I had two messages. I am fairly new here and thought this was how messages were sent. I now--on my other computer--have a page telling me I have some kind of fatal error, asking me to enter a username and password, not for DU but (I presume) for my computer itself. I ran my anti-virus scan, and it found nothing. I tried turning the machine off and on, no good. I'll get the tech guy tomorrow to fix this for me, but I thought I should mention this in case a warning is justified.
With all their money
wouldn't you think the Trumps would've had Ivanka's buck teeth fixed?
That was my bad self.
What I really wanted to say is that I don't think the new Trump ad featuring his gorgeous daughter is going to win him any votes and may in fact turn off a lot of women who might otherwise be considering voting for him. I'm a regular old middle-class housewife, and I think she's absolutely beautiful, but:
She talks in this snooty upper-class accent
Every time she says "my father" or "I'm an entrepreneur" you don't think of someone who has succeeded despite the obstacles women face in the business world, you think of a spoiled rich girl, apple of her father's eye, who is set for life simply because of the accident of her birth--and her children and their children will be set for life if the estate tax is abolished
She is beautiful in a cool, graceful way (after giving birth to three children!) that most of us can only dream of attaining, and so we (I) hate her in spite of myself.
This is driving me crazy
Given that Donald Trump can legally pay no federal income taxes because of the way the tax code is structured, and given that this is only what a smart businessman would do, how come the centerpiece of every fucking Republican platform is a plank *lowering* the tax rate for the wealthiest citizens? If they're already paying fucking NOTHING, why and how do they want to pay less? Are we supposed to write them a check or something?
