Does Anyone Have the Answer to the Following?

On Friday DUer flaleftist reported on a very interesting theory about what McCain may have been up to:

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029387508

This theory as I understand it is that since the vote was taken under Senate reconcilition procedures, the actual defeat of the skinny repeal bill means that the reconcilition procedures (which require only 51 votes) cannot be used for the rest of this congress with regard to a bill on the same topic (health care).

Assuming McCain understood this, then his "yeah" vote on the procedural question of taking up the bill might well have been a trap. His "nay" on the actual bill under this theory means that until the next congress is in place (2019) an Obama Care repeal bill is subject to the "regular order" that McCain talked about in his speech last week (i.e. Filibuster rules - 60 votes).

Does anyone have knowledge as to whether this theory holds ANY water? If it does then McCain's stock with me goes up a couple of notches.

A Date That Will Live In Infamy

On November 8, 2016 - a date that will live in infamy - The United States was hit by a dastardly and evil attack by the forces of egregious ignorance, of overwhelming greed and corruption, of malignant and megalomniacal narcissism, of supreme and treasonous criminality and of a disregard for the truth such as, perhaps, has never been seen before in this country. All this has left us catastrophically weakened in spirit and in the belief in the fundamental ideals of this once great nation. We all must now strive for the recovery of our country from this, perhaps, greatest of all blows that have ever been visited upon it.

Americans it is time to unite against this scourge!!

P.S. I am sorry if this sounds a bit too grandiloquent, but it reflects, with ever increasing accuracy, how I felt on that infamous day and how I have felt ever since.

Altemeyer's Work Has Always Seemed Spot On

I have been touting Altemeyer's The Authoritarians for many years. It explains so much about "conservatives without conscience".

One of my take aways from Altemeyer's work is that authoritarian followers do not believe everything their chosen leader says; much more importantly they believe the LAST thing the leader says. Others have noticed this characteristic - think of George Orwell's 1984 where when Big Brother suddenly decides to go to war with a country after having been its booster, public attitude changes from friendship to total enmity literally over night.

But Trump is the real "master" of this belief of the LAST word. He realizes, whether wittingly or unwittinly, that regarding his followers he can utter blatant lie after blatant lie, day after day, without concern of losing his followers. After all they believe every LAST thing he says.
