I had another bad day at work yesterday (violence trigger)

I had another violent confrontation with a non-masker at my convenience store in Las Vegas last night. Mild concussion...multiple scalp and neck lacerations...lots of blood. Much of the store was trashed in the process. Four people were involved in the melee before it was over...afterward, hours with police and EMTs. Our store Christmas tree was destroyed. I'm a bit dismayed this morning.

Now it's the next evening, 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. I was sent home early from my shift by corporate while they 'review' the incident and call me in the morning to discuss it. The bastards are too cheap to provide security for the store and when we have to defend ourselves we are typically interrogated by flacks desperate to cover the corporation's ass, while we're left swinging in the wind. I'm too old for this shit.

Edit...thanks for your good wishes and suggestions, all.

12 pm Christmas Day...my co-worker and I were both suspended. Because the store only has five employees with two of us suspended this meant my other co-worker had to pull three shifts in a row with only a few hours off after the first shift. At least I didn't have to work on Christmas and I have a day to let my wounds heal.

Nevada Supreme Court rejects Trump campaign emergency request to limit mail ballot counting

https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/trump-campaign-nv-gop-file-emergency-appeal-to-state-supreme-court-to-limit-mail-ballot-counting-in-clark-county

The Nevada Supreme Court has denied an emergency request by President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign and the state Republican Party to immediately order Clark County election officials to stop processing mail ballots.

The appeal, filed Tuesday in the state Supreme Court, was a last-minute request for the state’s highest court to block Clark County’s mail ballot process. Carson City District Court Judge James Wilson on Monday issued an order flatly rejecting all of the requests to modify the county’s mail ballot processing plan as lacking standing to warrant last-minute judicial intervention in the state’s election process.

The order, signed by all seven members of the court, stated that the appeal failed to demonstrate a “sufficient likelihood of success to merit a stay or injunction” and that the request failed to identify any “mandatory statutory duty” or “manifest abuse of discretion” that would warrant judicial intervention at this point on Election Day.

Thanks to our vets for making this day possible...now go exercise your most important right

*(vets, among many others)

Remember to wear your mask! There will be lines in some locations so hang tough. If you've already voted and there are lines at polling places in your area, maybe grab a few cases of bottled water and hand them out to people in line. Call your friends and make sure they've voted. If there are disturbances at your polling place, first look to your own safety and then report the problem immediately. Be safe. Today, together we fire this chump!

GO NAVY (You will hear piccolos in this clip so consider yourself warned)

Facebook And Steve Bannon Hacked The Media. And They Won't Stop.

Let’s talk about Steve Bannon—I’d like to say “one last time” but who are we kidding? Regardless of the election outcome, we know that America’s political and media ecosystem has been inexorably changed by a racist novel-loving, dual collar-wearing media entrepreneur from Norfolk, Virginia. And if you thought the Bannon story was over after he got booted from the White House, or after he got pushed out of Breitbart News, or after his arrest by Postal Service agents this summer—you were wrong. Like a bad penny, Bannon keeps coming back, and in the closing weeks of this high-stakes election, he has been hauling out all of his old tricks to accomplish one simple goal: Sow chaos and confusion about Joe Biden, by any means necessary.

It was Bannon who shopped dubious material, supposedly off a Hunter Biden laptop, to the New York Post and other news outlets. It was people in Bannon’s circles who have been desperately trying to “pizzagate” Biden with baseless rumors. It is Bannon and Rudy Giuliani who, as my colleagues David Corn and Dan Friedman have comprehensively reported, keep pushing ever thinner and more loathsome allegations to every right-wing outlet site around. And while mainstream media are not being hoodwinked as much as they were in the past, it doesn’t matter as much anymore because it’s easier—and more profitable—than ever to pump propaganda directly into America’s political bloodstream.

Facebook made Bannon and Breitbart, and it’s clear that it will enable the next Bannon, the next Breitbart, and the next Trump. It will continue to allow users to be drenched with lies that separate them from their loved ones, their savings, and their own political best interests. It will permit the disinformation machines to keep going, and going.

Unless we break those machines—by building a better model for news. One where stories inspire action, not outrage and hate; where investigations enlighten instead of obfuscating; where opinion pieces advance ideas instead of cementing prejudice. And where publishers approach their audience not as “eyeballs” to be monetized, but as partners.

Early Voting Ended Today - Ralston's Early-Voting Blog

Clark County firewall at 81K according to Ralston. 1,021,253 ballots, about 56 percent of the state’s active voters, have been cast - equivalent to 91 percent of the total Nevada turnout in the 2016 presidential race. Mail-in votes continue to roll in which will be counted as late as Nov. 10 if postmarked by Nov.3. Bottom line: Dems have to be happy, Republicans have to be worried.
