The Clark Fork at sunset. Spring runoff is high and the river is rocking!
I just got my 16 year old son his first Pfizer vaccine!
He just turned 16 on Mothers Day. The vaccine clinic was fast, friendly and efficient. We ran into a few other families that we know who were also getting their kiddos vaxxed as well. Owen (my son) can have a relatively normal summer after his second shot. Ive been hesitant to even let him apply for jobs without being vaccinated. I feel such relief!
Montana gains second US house seat.

Representation is wonderful if youre represented. From my vantage point in Missoula, I feel overrun with people from other places...our home prices are insane, we have a labor shortage and wages are low in general. I worry about the influx of folks from places with politics far more conservative that what Im used to in blue Missoula. I hope this is good news but in the current Daines/Gianforte environment, I am skeptical.
Where are you all with this news?
First Iris of spring: Beloved osprey returns to Missoula
The photogenic fish hawk triggered her nest camera above Missoula College River Campus at 8:06:48 a.m. Wednesday. She migrated north from her wintering grounds most likely 2,000 miles away along the Gulf of Mexico.
Shes now the oldest known living osprey in the world, said University of Montana biologist Erick Greene, whos been studying osprey for decades.
We put that platform up 14 years ago, and she was nesting on some power lines by the Missoula College for many years before that," Greene added. "Osprey dont start breeding until theyre 4 or 5 years old. We estimate shes probably about 24 years old.
On a side note...Iris the osprey nests at the mouth of Hellgate Canyon on the east side of Missoula. Hellgate is known for the howling winds that come out the canyon. Iris is indeed a badass.

Montana thug governor tests positive for Covid.
I guess I should feel badly about this but I dont.

I got the J&J vaccine today!
Im so excited. I wasnt supposed to get mine until phase 2. However, my sister in law is a pharmacist and she called and said they had a no-show for the J&J vaccine...and if I could get to her within 20 minutes, I could have it. I know people are sick of hearing about vaccines...but Ive got no one else to share it with and Im just thrilled.
I went ice fishing today with my kiddo.
My son is 15 and has always loved fishing but this winter, ice fishing seems to have really grabbed his interest. Weve been collecting equipment...a hut, a battery operated ice auger, some new rods and a sled to haul it all. We didnt catch anything today but we learned how to use all the stuff. It was fun! Im grateful for the hut because the wind just howled today. Oh...and I saw my first ever wild river otter. WOW! I am so tired tonight...but what a good day.
Happy Fluffy Butt Friday!
My girls found a patch of ground with no snow and we enjoyed a few minutes together talking about it.

In between winter storms...a beautiful sunset.
I live in a narrow canyon outside my town...the sun comes up late and goes down early so we almost never get sunsets. The trade off is a lovely wildlife corridor with a roaring creek that tumbles out of a designated wilderness. However, tonight we got a treat before the snow flies again:
