California considers ban on sex between lawyers and clients

Source: The Associated Press

By SUDHIN THANAWALA
Nov. 27, 2016 2:33 PM EST

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The nation's largest state bar association is overhauling ethics rules for attorneys for the first time in 30 years, and some lawyers are unhappy about a proposal that would open them up to discipline for having sex with clients.

California currently bars attorneys from coercing a client into sex or demanding sex in exchange for legal representation.

Supporters of an all-out ban say the relationship between a lawyer and client is inherently unequal, so any sexual relationship is potentially coercive. But some attorneys say it's an unjustified invasion of privacy.

The proposal is part of a long-awaited shake-up of the state bar association's ethics rules for attorneys, which were last fully revised in 1987. Lawyers who violate the regulations are subject to discipline ranging from private censure to loss of their legal license.

UPDATED: 14:22, Sun, Nov 27, 2016

NIGEL Farage says he cannot leave his house without security after Brexit and Donald Trump’s US presidential election victory.

The interim Ukip leader has received death threats and just last week was confronted during a night out.

+

Revealing he had been threatened with a glass on Thursday night, he said: “I’ve got no life – I can’t do anything, I can’t go anywhere. Certainly I would not go out in London of an evening on my own without security – couldn’t even think about it.

I can’t even walk down the street without it. I have to go to private places, private venues."

Donald Trump spent Thanksgiving asking: Mitt or Rudy?

Source: news.com.au

November 27, 2016 7:00pm

THE talk at Donald Trump’s Thanksgiving dinner at his Florida club was all about if he should pick Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani for secretary of state.

The President-elect held court on Thursday at his Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago club at a large table with family members including wife Melania and sons Eric and Barron, The New York Post reports.

One witness said Trump took a prime table next to the fireplace in the club’s living room, but spent a lot of time greeting members and asking who they think should be his top diplomat.

“Donald was walking around asking everybody he could about who should be his secretary of state. There was a lot of criticism about Romney, and a lot of people like Rudy. There are also many people advocating for [former US ambassador to the UN] John Bolton.”

Fox News Should Know This Isn't The First Time Someone Questioned A Presidents Legitimacy

I do believe it's called

Fox News pundits have had a lot to say about protests in the wake of Donald Trump’s Electoral College win. As demonstrators voiced their opposition to the president-elect and his proposed policies, the network’s hosts have said it’s “disgraceful” that those individuals want to “delegitimize” the incoming president.

Well, the network seems to be forgetting that it took a similar attitude toward President Barack Obama, questioning his legitimacy in 2008 and even after he moved into the White House.

Even last year, host Sean Hannity said of Obama, “Not my president.”

And time and time again, Fox News hosts questioned whether the 44th president was even eligible to hold the office, saying he was born in Kenya and then that he had released a fake birth certificate to lie about his origins. Trump is one of the key people who pushed the birther movement questioning Obama’s eligibility for office.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, a Hattiesburg police officer spotted someone driving down the road who appeared to be a suspect in a burglary and credit card fraud, Hattiesburg police spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler said.

When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect failed to respond.

Ted Cruz Rips Justin Trudeau For Praising Fidel Castro

Source: The Huffington Post

11/26/2016 05:05 pm ET

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) ripped Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday for releasing a statement lauding Fidel Castro after the Cuban leader’s death.

Cruz, who was born in Canada and whose father fled Castro’s Cuba for the United States, called Trudeau’s statement “disgraceful.”

Trudeau called Castro a “legendary revolutionary and orator” while acknowledging the late Cuban leader was “a controversial figure.” He added, “both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for ‘el Comandante.’”

The statement made no reference to Castro’s dictatorial rule, squashing of dissent or human rights abuses. Canadian politicians were also quick to denounce Trudeau’s comments.

Ohio State outlasts Michigan in double-overtime in an instant classic

Source: Sports Illustrated

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The gloom that hung over Ohio Stadium on Saturday at noon cast a fitting throwback vibe. In an era when the Big Ten is attempting to again lay claim to having the top conference in college football, the Football Gods reminded us why the Big Ten has its own trademarked overcast chill.

On a day defined by physical line play, huge swings in the kicking game and sputtering offenses, it ended in the most fitting of places—the first overtime game in the 113 years of this series. This is what Big Ten football used to be, when spread was the pregame meal and "tempo" was the loaner car from the local dealership.

Considering the ferociousness of this rivalry, the College Football Playoff stakes and the cunning plot twists, this was one of the best games in recent memory. Store this away as an instant classic in a century-old rivalry, the kind they make documentaries and oral histories about.

Curtis Samuel ran the ball 15 yards for a touchdown in the second overtime, capping a 30–27 victory and perhaps the most improbable comeback in the century-plus history of this rivalry. It wasn’t just that Ohio State trailed 17–7 late in the third quarter, it was the complete offensive ineptitude they overcame to string together the comeback. Ohio State failed to score on its first eight offensive possessions, and Michigan finished the day with eight sacks and 13 tackles for loss.

I know, I know, an I will not object to a lock, but I spent two of my four years in college at Michigan State, and I would just like to say at this time: Die, Wolverines, Die!

3 California mosques threatened in letter praising Trump

Source: Orange County Register

Nov. 26, 2016 Updated 11:12 a.m.

Local Islamic leaders are asking for increased police protection after at least three California mosques received a letter that threatens Muslims and praises President-Elect Donald Trump.

Over the past several days, Islamic centers in Long Beach, Claremont and San Jose all received the same photocopy of a handwritten letter addressed to the Children of Satan. The letter calls Muslims vile, filthy and evil. It then states that Trump who, during his campaign, proposed making Muslims register and blocking people of faith from entering the country is going to cleanse America.

Hes going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews, the letter reads. You Muslims would be wise to pack your bags and get out of Dodge.

The letter is signed Americans for a Better Way.

How Larry King and Ed Schultz May Have Helped Russia Spread Fake Anti-Hillary Clinton News

by Lindsey Ellefson | 1:12 pm, November 25th, 2016, Mediaite

Russia, Russia, Russia. We heard so much about Russia this election season. It was Russian hackers who were believed to be behind hack after hack of left-leaning politicians’ emails. It was Russia that wanted to send poll monitors to our voting sites. It was Russia’s authoritarian leader who got praised and dismissed in equal measure by GOP nominee Donald Trump. Now, we’ve learned that it was Russia’s propaganda that led to the explosion of fake news across the Internet that so many believe played a role in electing Trump. Through their connection to a source of fake news that was directly named in the reports, two American journalists have now lost their credibility forever.

Let’s go over this. Here is how Mediaite’s Alex Griswold explained Russia’s dissemination of fake news this morning:

The experts contend that Russian government pushes its message with a combination of “white” and “black” sources. The “white” sources are outlets that RT and Sputnik that are explicitly backed by Russia and repeats their propaganda. The “black” sources are the anonymous trolls and hackers that spread fake news and hack Western government officials.

Larry King and Ed Schultz both joined RT America within the last few years and faced heavy criticism for the move. King had to defend himself by insisting that his employer never edited his interviews to make the Kremlin look better. Schultz was widely panned for joining a network known for its propaganda.
