Statue of Jesus only thing left standing in house burned by Tennessee wildfire

Source: CNN

By Doug Criss, CNN

(CNN) The pictures coming out of the Gatlinburg, Tennessee, wildfires are just devastating. Acres of woodland blackened. Row upon row of homes and businesses reduced to ashes.

But a TV crew with CNN affiliate WVLT spotted something of a miracle amid all that destruction. On Wednesday, reporter Kelsey Leyrer and her team captured footage of what they saw at a house out in Sevier County. It was a statue of Jesus -- covered with soot and ashes, but still standing. It was the only thing left after the home burned to the ground.

The Jesus statue was the second religious item this week that survived the wildfires. Earlier this week Isaac McCord, an employee at the Dollywood theme park, says he found a partially burned page from the Bible's book of Joel. The part of the passage that's readable, from Joel's first chapter reads, "O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field."

Hey, the guy supposedly spent three days in Hell, so this wildfire must've been a cakewalk for him!

Russia: Space cargo ship has crashed due to a malfunction

MOSCOW (AP) — An unmanned Russian cargo space ship crashed Thursday en route to the International Space Station due to an unspecified malfunction, the Russian space agency said.

Roscosmos said in a statement that the Progress MS-04 cargo craft crashed at the altitude of 190 kilometers (118 miles) over the remote Russian Tyva region that borders Mongolia. It says most of the space ship's debris burnt up as it entered the atmosphere.

The Progress lifted off as scheduled at 8:51 p.m. (1451 GMT) from Russia's space launch complex in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, to deliver 2.5 metric tons of fuel, water, food and other supplies. It entered an orbit nine minutes later and was set to dock with the space station on Saturday.

Roscosmos said the craft was operating normally before it stopped transmitting data 383 seconds after the launch. The Russian space agency would not immediately describe the cause of the malfunction, saying its experts were looking into it.

That could just as easily have been a manned mission with Americans on board. Russian technology is crap!

I am Sick and Tired of Hearing this "Coastal Party" Bullshit

Every fucking time Democrats lose an election, we go through a Rending Of Garments ritual, where we'll never---never!---win again.

Now, I readily acknowledge that, with Donny Boy, we actually MIGHT never win another election, 'cause there may not BE another election, because Orange Julius Caesar maybe starts World War III. But, in the unlikely event that doesn't happen, of course we'll win again! Demography is destiny, jadies and lentlemen!

Oh yeah, as for this "coastal" nonsense, a six-pack of beer to anybody who can tell me what oceans Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Illinois and Vermont border on.

AP sources: Obama leans against last-minute action on Israel

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama has nearly ruled out any major last-ditch effort to put pressure on Israel over stalled peace negotiations with the Palestinians, U.S. officials said, indicating Obama will likely avoid one last row with Israel's government as he leaves office.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Obama for more than a year had considered giving a major speech describing his vision for a future peace deal or, in a more aggressive step, supporting a United Nations resolution laying out parameters for such a deal. Although the goal would be to impart fresh urgency to the moribund peace process, either step would have been perceived as constraining Israel's negotiating hand while strengthening the Palestinians' argument on the world stage.

Discussions about those potential maneuvers, under way before the U.S. election, have fallen off since Donald Trump's surprise victory, officials said. Obama is now highly unlikely to approve either of those options presented to him by U.S. diplomats, said the officials, who weren't authorized to discuss internal deliberations and requested anonymity.

Officials left open the possibility that Obama could address the Mideast issue in a more limited way, short of weighing in on the contours of a future peace accord, before leaving office.

The White House and the Israeli Embassy in Washington both declined to comment.

If only the Israelis and Palestinians could get together in a true Christian spirit.

Many Factors Contributed to This Disaster, but Which Was #1

I continue to indict James Comey: Without his unprecedented interference, we'd not only have HRC as President, but a Democratic Senate as well.

But perhaps you've a different view...

Judge asked complainant why she couldn't just keep knees together to avoid rape

Federal Court Justice Robin Camp who asked a woman during a rape trial why she couldn't just keep her knees together should be removed from the bench, according to a unanimous recommendation from the Canadian Judicial Council's committee of inquiry.

Camp was a provincial court judge at the time of the rape trial in Alberta in 2014, in which he acquitted the accused, and was later promoted to the Federal Court. His comments during the trial and subsequent complaints made with the Canadian Judicial Council led to the inquiry.

The committee of inquiry found that "Justice Camp committed misconduct while presiding over the trial," the council said in a release issued Wednesday morning.

You know, the more I learn, the more I realize that Canada (which I've visited several times) is not quite the panacea folks like Michael Moore seem to think it is.

House Democrats Re-Elect Pelosi as Leader

Source: ABC News

By erica werner, ap congressional correspondent
WASHINGTON — Nov 30, 2016, 11:45 AM ET.

House Democrats have re-elected Nancy Pelosi as their leader.

The California lawmaker, who has led the party since 2002, turned back a challenge from Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan on Wednesday.

Her win came despite disenchantment among some in the Democratic caucus over the party's disappointing performance in the elections earlier this month. Democrats will remain in the minority in the House and Senate next year and won't have the presidency as a bulwark against Republicans.

Democrats were also choosing other leaders during the closed-door session that was expected to take several hours.
