Pearce: Putting the American taxpayer and economy first

"I applaud the BLM today for putting the American economy and taxpayer first by rescinding this unnecessary regulation. Many of these Obama-era environmental rules were duplicative in nature and made in order solely to cripple energy production on federal lands. This doesn't better preserve our environment, but cuts off sources of revenues for states like New Mexico who rely on the production and development of resources to support our teachers, infrastructure, and more. From the very beginning, federal courts declared that the BLM did not have the proper authority to regulate hydraulic fracturing on public lands. By rescinding the rule altogether, the BLM upholds the rule of law and moves the nation closer towards becoming less reliant on foreign energy production. With that, New Mexico can once again have the opportunity to become a leader in energy development."

Tennessee: Signs are a safety hazard, but guns are OK

From USA Today Network:

Tennesseans will be allowed to bring their guns to the new home of the legislature but must leave any hand-held signs behind, according to a recently implemented policy.

The policy, which Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, and House Speaker Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, approved Dec. 14, expressly prohibits “hand-carried signs and signs on hand sticks” because they “represent a serious safety hazard.”

Is this sick or what?

Washington, D.C. (December 18, 2017) Last Friday, the House and Senate Conference Committee released their final report of the compromised version of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Today, the Tax Foundation released a preliminary economic analysis, highlighting overall economic effects this bill will achieve if passed and signed into law.

"… the plan would significantly lower marginal tax rates and the cost of capital, which would lead to a 1.7 percent increase in GDP over the long term, 1.5 percent higher wages, and an additional 339,000 full-time equivalent jobs. In 2018, our model predicts that GDP would be 2.45 percent, compared to baseline growth of 2.01 percent."

"The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a pro-growth tax plan, which, when fully implemented, would spur an additional $600 billion in federal revenues from economic growth…"

NM's Pearce redefines "New Mexico Small Business"

NM-02 misrepresentative steve pearce posted this over the weekend. “Lunch with the family at Rosa’s Cafe, a New Mexico small business.”

I don’t think so.

Rosa’s Cafe is a chain of over 40 locations, mostly in Texas, and part of Bobby Cox Companies, a multi-chain conglomerate headquartered in Texas.

Small Business?

Sure the restaurants provide some local employment, mostly low-paying, & collect sales tax, but any corporate trickle-down (?) is not going to fall in New Mexico. The profits are siphoned off to an out-of-state corporation. If pearce can’t figure out what a New Mexico business is, he doesn't belong in congress, nor in Santa Fe.

GOP "Postcard" tax return - what's missing:

Let's start with this - most of the "adjustments to income". Pretty significant stuff to a lot of people. Maybe a lower tax rate, higher standard deduction, but personal exemption and nearly all of these adjustments go away. Lots of people will end up with higher taxable income.

Rep pearce's letter - dissected

Got an e-mail from pearce about how great the budget and tax "reform" will be for New Mexicans and felt obligated to pick it apart.

Hello friends,

First error. I am not his friend because his congressional votes certainly don't treat me as a friend.

This week, the House passed legislation so Congress can move forward with tax reform that will help families and create jobs in New Mexico, and across the nation.

The current tax code drives our entire way of life. Whether you’re working to save for retirement, send your kids to college, or expand your small business, all New Mexicans deserve a fairer tax code that works to let them achieve their goals, not hold them back. New Mexico is home to some of the nation’s poorest communities who need more and better jobs. The average New Mexican works hard to provide for themselves or their families. It’s that every day, hard-working person I want to see benefit from tax reform, and that’s exactly why I voted today to pass the budget this week.

Yes, there are poor communities that need jobs, but there's more to it that. Low-income families need healthcare and sometimes help with basic needs like food, housing and education if they are to be able to fill those jobs. Yet pearce voted to cut Medicaid and Medicare, and defund HeadStart and housing and heating assistance. For someone who claims to have grown up with assistance in a working-class low-income family, pearce sure has a funny way of giving back. The last sentence is a total contradiction, and almost implies that those on Medicaid do not work hard.

Passing this legislation allows Congress to move forward on tax reform that can create greater opportunities for people and families in lower-income communities to be raised out of poverty. We’ll see more New Mexican small businesses thrive, more jobs become available, and, ultimately, a more prosperous future for our children and grandchildren.

Just more of the old trickle-down crap: Piss on the 99%. I have no idea why he looks forward to hearing constituents' thoughts. At one of his rare townhall meetings, this one in Las Cruces, he stated he votes based on his own beliefs and agenda. Obviously. And where does he spend most of his "away from DC" time? Campaigning for governor in ABQ & Santa Fe. Afraid to show up in his own district?

Pearce campaign attempts retaliation

Pearce campaign's latest press release:

HOBBS – Dark money groups continued their attack on Steve Pearce for being the only candidate for governor who puts New Mexico above special interests, releasing a misleading and desperate ad today as part of an ongoing campaign funded by left-wing out-of-state donors with a partisan agenda.

"Dark money groups are pulling out all the stops to attack Steve Pearce because his vision for New Mexico is a threat to their partisan agenda," said Pearce campaign spokesman Greg Blair. "Steve worked with residents, ranchers, conservationists, business owners, and community leaders in southern and western New Mexico to protect public lands without hurting the local economy and their way of life. That kind of leadership is unacceptable to left-wing special interest groups, who parachute into New Mexico to enact a radical agenda with no regard for how it affects people who actually live here."

I think it's the other way around; Pearce is the one with no regard for the 99%. Protecting public lands? You gotta be kidding. Left-wing special interests? Like putting the needs of the people ahead of corporate greed? Yeah, that's a pretty radical agenda.

The group behind the ad is part of a partisan attack organization funded by dark money groups all over the country. Through shady alliances with other far-left special interests, these attack groups want to push radical policies like gun control, government-run healthcare, and appeasing and funding Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.

"New Mexicans are tired of partisan dysfunction in government, but these groups thrive on it," Blair added. "Steve Pearce is the only candidate who wants to change the way things are done in Santa Fe. It's not surprising that special interests are fighting his vision tooth and nail."

His vision, our nightmare. This whole release sounds like paranoia.
