When's the last time Trump has had a public appearance?

I know he was spotted golfing over the weekend, per usual. But no public appearances?

St. Olaf students boycott classes in protest of latest racial incident

http://www.startribune.com/st-olaf-students-boycott-classes-in-protest-of-latest-racial-incident/

NORTHFIELD, MINN. — Hundreds of students, some wearing pajamas, others carrying pillows and blankets, gathered on the St. Olaf College campus Monday morning to protest a string of racist incidents over the past school year, the latest being a threatening note that was left on the windshield of a black student’s car demanding that she “shut up or I will shut you up.”

The students, who boycotted classes Monday, began gathering at Tomson Hall just before 7 a.m. in preparation for a daylong sit in. Within a half-hour, scores of students had lined the hallways and corridors of the building, located in the heart of the campus about 45 miles south of the Twin Cities.

Organizers of the sit-in, who asked that students of color sit in the front of the room, later passed out a detailed list of demands of school administrators outlining specific changes they want to see to address the racism they say is “embedded” on the campus.

The demands included calls for strengthening racial and cultural sensitivity sessions for all incoming freshmen and establishing a mandatory “sustained dialogue” for all student athletes, members of the student government association and the student senate for at least length of a semester.

KARE-11 revealed identity of Minneapolis tipster who later killed himself

The original story is here:

http://www.citypages.com/news/al-ditty-dedicated-his-life-to-minneapolis-a-city-that-one-day-would-take-it-away/420396663

A public radio short version that relies on the above story is here:

http://blogs.mprnews.org/newscut/2017/04/report-tv-station-revealed-identity-of-tipster-who-later-killed-himself/

When the protests outside the 4th Precinct police station were to be put down, the plan was for the police department to move out the protesters, the fire department to put out their fires, and the sanitation workers to clean up the mess.

Ditty was reportedly concerned about the safety of the workers. They hadn’t been trained in riot zones.

When Ditty saw the video of white supremacists threatening protesters,he knew the situation wasn’t safe. His supervisor had told him he didn’t have a choice; he and the others had to go into the area to clean up the site when the raid on protesters came.

So he sent a news tip to KARE 11, City Pages reports. And KARE 11 turned his email over to the police, it says.

Fuck KARE 11, and fuck the managers who didn't get word to Mr. Ditty about the procedures that would be followed. What a clusterfuck.

Eric Newton, the founder of Voodoo Taco restaurants, lived with gusto and died last week at middle age.

Newton suffered a heart attack in his northwest Omaha home April 13. His 12-year-old daughter, Emma, called 911 and did chest compressions, but Newton was declared dead in the hospital soon after.

Newton, 45, helped create the Voodoo Taco chain in Omaha but had removed himself from operations and sold most of his ownership interest. He was working on a new restaurant concept when he died.

His wife, Colleen, said he had felt ill for weeks but wanted to wait until the health insurance at her job kicked in next month before he went to a doctor.

'Appalled' liquor commissioners vote to deny licenses for Whiteclay (near Pine Ridge SD) beer stores

LINCOLN — A state liquor board took the unprecedented step Wednesday of voting to deny the renewal of the liquor licenses of four beer stores in Whiteclay, Nebraska.

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission voted 3-0 to deny the licenses of the stores. One commissioner said that law enforcement was “woefully inadequate” to allow liquor sales there.

“We were appalled by some of the attitudes of Sheridan County officials that they don’t have a problem there. We found that to be bogus,” said Bob Batt of Omaha, the chairman of the liquor board.

People in the standing-room-only audience in a tiny meeting room at the State Office Building applauded and hugged after the vote was taken.

Batt went on to describe Whiteclay alcohol sales as "assisted suicide."

North Korea's 2017 Military Parade Was a Big Deal. Here Are the Major Takeaways

http://thediplomat.com/2017/04/north-koreas-2017-military-parade-was-a-big-deal-here-are-the-major-takeaways/

What’s more, we’re likely still in for a sixth nuclear test sooner or later. Even though Pyongyang withheld from testing this weekend amid rumors of possible retaliation by the United States, North Korea is still looking to improve its missile know-how. Moreover, the long-dreaded ICBM flight test also might not be too far off now. Given the ever-growing number of TELs — both wheeled and tracked — North Korea may soon field nuclear forces amply large that a conventional U.S.-South Korea first strike may find it impossible to fully disarm Pyongyang of a nuclear retaliatory capability. That would give the North Korean regime what it’s always sought with its nuclear and ballistic missile program: an absolute guarantee against coercive removal.

Tillerson: "I didn't want this job."

http://ijr.com/2017/03/814687-trumps-diplomat/

Lots of good info in this article about Tillerson's "approach" to diplomacy. This nugget is way down.

“I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job.” He paused to let that sink in.

A beat or two passed before an aide piped up to ask him why he said yes.

“My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”

After watching the contortions of my face as I tried to figure out what to say next, he humbly explained that he had never met the president before the election. As president-elect, Trump wanted to have a conversation with Tillerson “about the world” given what he gleaned from the complex global issues he dealt with as CEO of Exxon Mobil.

“When he asked me at the end of that conversation to be secretary of state, I was stunned.”

When Tillerson got home and told his wife, Renda St. Clair, she shook her finger in his face and said, “I told you God’s not through with you.”
