Texas congressman pulls endorsement from Castro to support Biden

Washington(CNN)Texas Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez on Sunday flipped his support from Julián Castro to Joe Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination, saying now is the time to narrow the 2020 field and unite as Democrats.

The switch of support comes days after Castro sharply criticized Biden -- with an apparent jab at the former vice president's memory -- in a contentious moment dubbed "personal" and "not cool" by other candidates, but Gonzalez said that debate moment was not the reason behind his decision.

Castro's "delivery could have been different," Gonzalez told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union," but the congressman said most of what he saw on the debate stage was "fair game in moving the process forward." Still, the Democratic Party needs to narrow the 20-person field to be successful, he said.

"We need to narrow the field and unite as Democrats to defeat (President Donald) Trump in November 2020. That's why I believe I'm moving my support to Vice President Joe Biden," Gonzalez, who represents the Texas 15th Congressional District, said.

Harris repeatedly defends response to mental health slur at rally

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris on Saturday repeatedly defended her response to a rallygoer calling President Donald Trump's actions "mentally retarded" at a campaign event, saying that she didn't hear the slur.

As Harris addressed a crowd of voters at a town hall in New Hampshire on Friday, an attendee brought up Trump's potential impeachment before asking Harris, "What are you going to do in the next one year, to diminish the mentally retarded actions" of the president.

The California senator drew ire from disability rights activists when she appeared to laugh at the remark, responding, "Well said."

Politifact: Kamala Harris claimed she 'sued Exxon Mobil' as California AG. She didn't.

During a climate town hall on CNN this week, Democratic presidential candidate and California Sen. Kamala Harris vowed to take on Big Oil and other powerful interests when they "profit off of harmful behaviors" such as burning fossil fuels.

In answer to a direct question, she claimed she already did that as California’s attorney general.

"So, Senator Harris, what would you do? Would you sue them? Sue Exxon Mobil?" asked moderator Erin Burnett.

"I have sued Exxon Mobil," Harris replied.

Marianne Williamson deletes tweet saying 'power of the mind' helped turn Dorian

Spiritual guru and self-help author Marianne Williamson on Wednesday posted and then deleted a tweet suggesting that the "power of the mind" helped turn Hurricane Dorian away from delivering a more dangerous blow to the United States.

“The Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas...may all be in our prayers now,” the Democratic presidential candidate said in the original tweet, adding, “Millions of us seeing Dorian turn away from land is not a wacky idea; it is a creative use of the power of the mind. Two minutes of prayer, visualization, meditation for those in the way of the storm.”
