So, what does the Republican Party do now?

Actual election day is a month away. Voting has already started some places. Trump trailed in the polls before the double debacles of the debate and the announcement of his and Melania's positive tests.

The notion that the test results were false positives or that Trump's encounter with COVID would be asymptomatic have already left the building. Under the best possible circumstances, Trump will not be able to make public appearances for two weeks. Under less than the best circumstances, we all know the possibilities.

Do they cut their losses and 25th Amendment Trump now, leaving them with Pence as their standard-bearer? Do they short-circuit even the thinnest pretense of normal process and confirm ACB to the SCOTUS instantly and then turn around and have the SCOTUS crown Pence king? Or are they so far down the rabbit hole that they take it on faith that Trump will rise healthy and strong?

Or, I suppose, they could lose the theofascist fantasies that are slipping away anyway and just do what's right for the American people.

Yeah.

An email I want to get but probably never will.

Hi.It's ________. I thought you should know that _________ and I have decided to vote Democratic for the first time in our lives. We supported Trump for a long time but too many things have happened for us to continue. We'll be voting for Biden and Harris. We still believe in conservative politics and hope that some day soon, we'll be able to again disagree without being disagreeable.

Take care,
________ and ________

Suppose Parscale is haunted by the ghost of Frank Pentangeli?

Yeah, I know Frankie Five-angels is fictitious. Still, he’s the Man Who Was Never There who won’t go away.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

John F. Kennedy, remarks on the first anniversary of the Alliance for Progress, 13 March 1962.

Words that become more and more relevant each day.

Anyone know of a good protect-the-voting-places org to contribute to?

If I knew a place where Trumpholes were harassing voters, I'd so be there to be a voter escort, but I live in true-blue NY and that probably won't be happening here, nor in the states I can get to, CT and NJ.

Is Facebook dying?

I stopped using FB pre-Trump for mostly personal reasons. I keep an account on the side with a fake name so I can peek in on people to see what they're up to (yeah, bad me). I've noticed that the volume of FB posts has dropped way off. A lot of people haven't posted in months.

Anyone else seeing that?

Is it it just me, is the endgame beginning now?

Seems like a lot of really nasty things are coming to a head.

What General Mark Milley should have said.

What he said:

I believe deeply in the principle of an apolitical U.S. military. In the event of a dispute over some aspect of the elections, by law U.S. courts and the U.S. Congress are required to resolve any disputes, not the U.S. military. I foresee no role for the U.S armed forces in this process.

What he should have said:

The Constitution lays out very explicitly the rules of Presidential succession. The military has no Constitutional role. I firmly believe in the commitment of all the parties involved to scrupulously adhere to those rules and procedures. Members of the military, the Senate and House of Representatives, and the President and Vice President all swear an oath to uphold the Constitution. I have no doubt that they will do exactly that. Any alternative would be unthinkable.

My convention speech, if they had invited me.

A lot of people tonight are saying good things about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Well, good on them, but I wanted to talk about something else.

Imagine you're driving down the highway having a pretty good day and then BANG! You're in in one of those gawdawful multicar pileups. People are badly injured. Some of them are trapped in smashed-up cars. Fuel is leaking all over. A massive fire could break out an any second.

We all know what we want to happen next. Cops and EMTs and firemen arrive at the scene. Traffic is rerouted to avoid more accidents. Foam is spread to dampen down the possibility of fire. Firemen use the Jaws of Life to extricate people trapped in wrecked cars. EMTs stabilize the injured and they're transported to hospital trauma centers via ambulance or medevac helicopter. People without serious injuries are treated at the scene. Children separated from their parents are cared for. Tow trucks clear the highway and normal traffic flow is restored.

---Or---

Roving gangs of thugs rifle the smashed up cars while leaving the injured to die. They rape the survivors and set fire to damaged vehicles for their own amusement. Drivers caught in the snarled traffic are robbed at gunpoint. People are forced to abandon their cars and flee on foot. Normal traffic isn't restored for days.

In this election we can pick the first alternative or the second. The second isn't some crazy fever-dream. It's what's been happening. We have to stop it and restore sanity to America.

Thank you.
