Al Franken-MN/Jeff Merkley-OR 2020.
Both of these men are strong progressives elected to the US Senate in 2008 by unseating Republican incumbents by a narrow margin, re-elected in 2014 by high single digit/ low double digit margin. Al Franken-MN is doing an excellent job as US Senator filibustering Trump cabinet appointees. He was also behind Air America. Jeff Merkley-OR was the first Democratic US Senator to endorse Bernie Sanders.
Could Chuck Schumer (D-NY) follow Bob Dole's (R-KS) lead and seek the 2020 Democratic Presidential
Nomination to unseat Donald Trump-R.
Bob Dole was the Republican leader of the US Senate from 1985-1996 (Reagan's 2nd Term to Clinton's 1st Term) when he decided to seek the 1996 Republican Presidential nomination to unseat Bill Clinton-D but was unsuccessful.
Chuck Schumer-NY has been Democratic of the US Senate since 2017. If Democrats don't find a decent candidate to unseat Trump-R by 2019, then Schumer should seek the 2020 Democratic Presidential Nomination. Unlike Dole-KS in 1996,Schumer-NY has an excellent chance of getting elected President because Schumer-NY is a much better campaigner than Dole,Gore,Kerry, and Hillary Clinton. Schumer-NY unseated Al D'Amato in his first US Senate Race-1998 and won re-election in 2004,2010,and 2016 with over 65 to 70 percent of the popular vote. Schumer could win back the Bernie supporters by leading the fight to block any of Trump's agenda from passing in the US Senate by a filibuster. Elizabeth Warren-MA could be the next Democratic Leader.
Donald Trump is going to have his 9th grandchild.
What does Donald Trump's oldest grandchild call Donald Trump's youngest child?
Freshmen Democratic US Senators likely to be on the 2020 Democratic Ticket.
1)Chris Van Hollen-MD
Current Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in the 2018 election cycle. If every vulnerable incumbent Democratic US Senator wins or vulnerable open Democratic held US Senate seat stays in the Democratic column. Van Hollen's standing in the National Democratic Party rises.
Previously served in the US House of Representative for 14 years (2003-2017). While in the US House, Van Hollen was chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 2008 and 2010 election cycle.
Previously served in the Maryland State Legislature, MD House 1991-1995, MD Senate 1995-2003.
Van Hollen has a progressive voting record
State Legislature- raised the tobacco tax, prohibit oil drilling in the Chesapeake Bay area, mandate trigger locks on guns, increase funding for education and Healthcare.
US House- Introduced legislation to fund the No Child Left Behind and Individuals with Disability Education Act. Introduced legislation to finance clean energy and energy efficiency projects.
2)Kamala Harris-CA
