Kentucky coal jobs DECLINE. Media silent

The media loved to talk about coal jobs when Trump was making promises about them. but they are very disinterested in telling us that coal jobs are stagnant, and even declining.
http://www.kentucky.com/news/state/article164970242.html

Kentucky coal jobs and production continued down in the second quarter of the year, illustrating the unlikely prospect of a quick turnaround for the industry despite President Donald Trump’s campaign promises to put miners back to work.

Coal mines across the state cut employment by a total of 200 jobs from April 1 through June 30 compared to the first quarter of 2017, or 3 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by the state Energy and Environment Cabinet.

Everyone bookmark this site: http://dashboard.securingdemocracy.org/

New York Times' Maggie Haberman: "Trump generally believes that everybody should have health care"

I found this jewel from an interview published yesterday in The New Yorker with Maggie Haberman, the New York Times reporter whom Donald Trump loves to speak to:

D.R.: What does that mean? We’re on from coast to coast, as they say. What does it mean to have inherited, to some degree, Ed Koch’s view of New York?
M.H.: Or at least his view of the role of government in people’s lives. I think that he believes that regulations are a restriction and a hindrance. Koch, while he did not openly talk about that the same way, certainly fumed at the limitations that government put on what he could do and stymied him. But I think that Trump generally believes that everybody should have health care, or that most people should have health care. I think he fundamentally believes that the role of government is to provide for people. What exactly that looks like, I think, is where you end up getting into a bit of a different place with him. But ultimately this is a guy who grew up in a city where the government was hugely accountable—for policing, for getting the garbage off the streets, for the buildings you build—and I think the role of government in people’s lives in New York City in the nineteen-eighties was pretty liberal.

That's right. The man who just wanted (but failed) to strip millions of health insurance wants everybody to have insurance according to Maggie Haberman. http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/a-conversation-with-maggie-haberman-trumps-favorite-foe

Russian Lawyer Whom Trump Jr. Met Says She Was in Contact With Top Russian Prosecutor

Source: Wall Street Journal

WASHINGTONThe Russian lawyer whom Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort met last year with the hopes of receiving damaging information about Hillary Clinton says she talked with the office of Russias top prosecutor while waging a campaign against a U.S. sanctions law and the hedge-fund manager who backed it.

Lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya said she wasnt working for Russian authorities, but she said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that she was meeting with Russian authorities regularly and shared information about the hedge-fund manager with the Russian prosecutor generals office, including with Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, a top official appointed by the Kremlin.

I personally know the general prosecutor, Ms. Veselnitskaya said. In the course of my investigation [about the fund manager], I shared information with him.

Mr. Chaikas office didnt respond to requests for comment on whether he knows and received information from Ms. Veselnitskaya.

It looks like the quid pro quo involved a settlement, in which the Trump administration allowed the firm represented by Veselnitskaya to settle a fraud lawsuit against them.
Preet Bharara was prosecuting Veselnitskaya's client, but he was fired 2 months before the Trump administration settled.
Now I know why Trump fired Preet Bharara on behalf of Veselnitskaya, in exchange for the DNC emails and Podesta emails.

Columbia Settles Lawsuit Brought by Former Student Accused of Sexual Assault by 'Mattress Girl'

Source: Time

Columbia University has settled a lawsuit alleging mistreatment under Title IX brought by a former student who had been cleared by the school of sexual misconduct, according to the Washington Post.

Paul Nungesser was accused of rape in 2012 by fellow student Emma Sulkowicz, who demonstrated against the way university dealt with her case by carrying her mattress around the New York City campus. Two other students also accused Nungesser of sexual assault. The school investigated the allegations and found Nungesser not responsible of sexual misconduct in November of 2013. He both graduated from the school and filed the lawsuit in 2015.

"Columbia recognizes that after the conclusion of the investigation, Paul’s remaining time at Columbia became very difficult for him and not what Columbia would want any of its students to experience," the university said in an emailed statement. The school did not reveal details about the settlement terms

John Solomon of The Hill exposed as a right wing troll

John Solomon is the journalist who started the now-debunked claim that James Comey's leaked memo contained classified information.
It turns out that Solomon is Sean Hannity's favorite guest, and there is more right-wingnuttery in his background :

"Solomon is one of Sean Hannity’s main sources for pushback against accusations of the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russian officials. Solomon has appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News television program “four times in June and four in May,” according to Nieman Lab. Hannity frequently cites Solomon’s reports to tamp down accusations of the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election or the administration’s general improper behavior. On May 9, Hannity boosted one of Solomon’s reports to distract from fired national security adviser Michael Flynn’s contacts with Russian officials and instead hyped Trump’s claims that someone in former President Barack Obama’s administration unlawfully unmasked Flynn. [Nieman Lab, 7/5/17; Media Matters, 5/9/17]

Solomon’s former publication, Circa, is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which may have made an agreement with the Trump campaign for “straighter coverage.” Politico reported that Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns the publication for which Solomon formerly reported, “struck a deal” with the Trump campaign in which Sinclair affiliates “would broadcast [Sinclair’s] Trump interviews across the country without commentary” in exchange for more access to then-presidential candidate Trump. [Politico, 12/16/16]

The Intercept falsely calls Mark Penn a "Clinton strategist"

Mark Penn hasn't been a Clinton strategist since 2008.

New York Times, April 7, 2008:

Mark Penn, the pollster who has advised Bill and Hillary Clinton since 1996, stepped down under pressure on Sunday as the chief political strategist for Mrs. Clinton’s struggling presidential campaign after his private business arrangements again clashed with her campaign positions.

Mr. Penn, who was widely disliked by Mrs. Clinton’s fiercest loyalists and had bitterly feuded with many of them, sealed his fate last week by meeting with officials from Colombia, which hired him to help secure passage of a bilateral trade treaty with the United States that Mrs. Clinton, a senator from New York, opposes

Yet, the website of Clinton hater Putin liver Glenn Greenwald has a big bold Drudge-esque headline that falsely screams:

CLINTON STRATEGIST MARK PENN PUSHES DEMOCRATS TO MOVE TO CENTER — AND QUIETLY PROFITS FROM GOP VICTORIES https://theintercept.com/2017/07/06/mark-penn-centrist-neoliberal-democrats-profits-donald-trump-republicans/

First they out Reality Winner, now they lie in order to make the Clintons look bad. The Intercept and Glenn Greenwald cannot hide their agenda.

Cyber-attack on Ukraine seems to have come from Russia, experts say

Russia disguised its attack on Ukraine as ransomware, so as to pretend that this was the work of a obscure, mysterious, unaffiliated hacking group, experts said.

“The fact of pretending to be a ransomware while being in fact a nation-state attack .?.?. is in our opinion a very subtle way for the attacker to control the narrative of the attack,” Suiche said.

Security researchers cautioned that it is too early to know for sure who is behind it. But some say that the targeting and distribution method of the malware point to Russia.

More than half the victimized computers were in Ukraine, including banks, energy firms and an airport.

Russia, which has annexed Crimea and has backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, has carried out an aggressive campaign of cyberattacks and harassment there."
