State Laws on Authorized Poll Watchers & Voter Challenges

Best to get our info straight from the horse's mouth:

National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS)

State Laws on Authorized Poll Watchers & Voter Challenges

Link (to access PDF file): https://www.nass.org/resources/2018-election-information/Poll-Watchers-Voter-Challenges

Someone please correct me if I misunderstand but I believe "poll watcher" does not mean someone stationed at a voting place during voting, but instead means a person from each party appointed to observe counting of votes after poll closure.

I believe some states have laws that prohibit anyone from being at a voting location that is not a.) someone who is actively in the process of voting, or b.) an official poll worker.

For most states, those rules are spelled out in their laws that prohibit electioneering in or near voting locations:

State Laws on Electioneering Boundaries

Direct link to PDF: http://www.nass.org/sites/default/files/surveys/2020-01/state-laws-polling-place-electioneering-Jan2020.pdf

Example (Alabama):
Except as electors are admitted to vote and persons to assist them as herein provided, and except for the judge of probate, the sheriff, or his or her deputy, the precinct election officials, and watchers, no person shall be permitted within 30 feet of the door of the building of the polling place.

It's increasingly obvious that tRump, his staff and his minions have no idea what a poll watcher really is.

Look at what this dog invented to cope with lockdown.....

Jerry needs no help playing with his ball.

Just kidding.....this was from 2008 but seems appropriate for today.

The author's note:

lamgngo

I built the ball machine because I thought my dog Jerry, might like it and that it would be something fun for me to build. So after two years of on and off work, with many safety features such as IR proximity sensors to protect Jerry and my son from the machine, I finally complete.

Far from being a replacement for me, I was always right there with him enjoying his fun. And with all the troubles that I went through to build the ball machine, I still end up throwing more balls than that the machine could count! According to the computer, he played with the machine by himself only 3 times in his life.

I recently put this video on YouTube to keep alive my earlier memories of him and (hopefully) provide some "humorous distractions" for anyone that might drop by.

Please enjoy the video.

Hell, that would be good for people to help them stay in shape!.....

Revealed: pro-Trump activists plotted violence ahead of Portland rallies

Revealed: pro-Trump activists plotted violence ahead of Portland rallies

Patriots Coalition members suggested political assassinations and said ‘laws will be broken, people will get hurt’, leaked chats show

Read it here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/23/oregon-portland-pro-trump-protests-violence-texts

(snips)
Leaked chat logs show Portland-area pro-Trump activists planning and training for violence, sourcing arms and ammunition and even suggesting political assassinations ahead of a series of contentious rallies in the Oregon city, including one scheduled for this weekend.

The chats on the GroupMe app, shared with the Guardian by the antifascist group Eugene Antifa, show conversations between Oregon members of the Patriots Coalition growing more extreme as they discuss armed confrontations with leftwing Portland activists, and consume a steady diet of online disinformation about protests and wildfires.

At times, rightwing activists discuss acts of violence at recent, contentious protests, which in some cases they were recorded carrying out. At one point, David Willis, a felon currently being sued for his alleged role in an earlier episode of political violence, joins a discussion about the use of paintballs.

Where other members had previously suggested freezing the paintballs for maximum damage, Willis wrote: “They make glass breaker balls that are rubber coated metal. They also have pepper balls but they are about 3 dollars a ball. Don’t freeze paintballs it makes them wildly inaccurate” [sic.]

So, what can be done about this intentional disruption and demeaning of a peaceful rally? I suspect the same damn thing is happening here in Louisville tonight.

These thugs are against our Constitution......

An elephant in the room asks this question:

Why was it necessary for Mr. Henry to mention race at all in his rant? If he wants to rant, it should be about gun violence in general.

Just remove the word "black" and "white" from his third sentence and nothing he says makes sense.

People are turning everyday non-racial incidents into racial click bait to push a political addenda...........

Local article on this issue, below. Henry sure stirred up a hornet's nest around the Low Country:

‘No longer the person for that job’: NAACP again demands Pawleys mayor’s resignation

(snip)

PAWLEYS ISLAND — Just feet away from where the Town of Pawleys Island usually hosts its in-person, bi-weekly council meetings, the NAACP doubled down on its demand that the town’s mayor, Brian Henry, resign immediately due to his referring to Black Lives Matter as a “terror organization” in a public Facebook post on Aug. 25.

Town council met via Zoom on Monday night, alleviating any potential showdown between the Georgetown chapter of the NAACP and the mayor. This was the second call by the NAACP for Henry to resign, the last occurring on Aug. 29.

With three dozen people in attendance on a sweltering Monday afternoon — with two holding signs that showed support for Henry — the tone of the NAACP’s planned protest was simple: It no longer trusted Henry to represent the best interest of the community.

I lived in that area for a while and it's one of the most deeply racist zones I've been around and I have traveled all over.

Pawleys Island has embraced the descriptive phrase "arrogantly shabby" for decades and Henry's rant is quite representative.

Enjoyable conversation with Dame Diana Rigg (27min. YouTube)

She was such a lovely conversationalist........

Dame Diana Rigg on The Avengers | BFI
•Nov 3, 2015

Five decades since she first appeared as Emma Peel in The Avengers (1961-1969), fans of the show still approach Dame Diana Rigg to express their gratitude. Rigg joins BFI curator Dick Fiddy to reflect on the influence of Peel on real-life women and acting with Patrick Macnee and Ian Hendry.

She would have been around 77 at the time of this interview and passed away on Sept. 10 at age 82.

More US colleges are grappling with high numbers of students testing positive for Covid-19

Extracted from Guardian's rolling live coverage of coronavirus news from around the globe:

More US colleges are grappling with high numbers of students testing positive for Covid-19 just days into the start of the new semester, after some universities rolled back their campus reopening plans in recent weeks.

Link: https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2020/aug/25/coronavirus-live-news-gaza-in-lockdown-following-first-local-cases-hong-kong-man-re-infected

Posting entire piece because I can't link to any individual section.......

The University of Alabama on Monday reported more than 550 people across its campuses had tested positive for Covid-19 since it resumed in-person classes on 19 August. Most of those infected were students, faculty and staff at the university’s main campus in Tuscaloosa.

Citing a “dramatic increase” in coronavirus cases on campus, the mayor of Tuscaloosa issued an executive order on Monday ordering bars to shut down for 14 days and placing restrictions on other establishments.

“Many students who tested positive for Covid-19 have chosen to go home to isolate,” Kellee Reinhart, the university’s vice chancellor for communications, told Reuters.

Reinhart said the school had an “ample amount” of space for Covid-19 positive students to isolate and that it was enhancing testing of various groups.

The university has conducted more than 46,000 tests, according to a dashboard it released this week, and the positivity rate stood at about 1%.

The number of positive cases does not include the 400 students who tested positive upon returning to University of Alabama campuses before classes began last week.

Alabama is not alone in scrambling to deal with Covid-19 college outbreaks.

The University of Southern California (USC), which resumed education almost entirely online on 17 August, on Monday said that more than 100 students at the University Park Campus in Los Angeles were in a 14-day quarantine after exposure to the virus.

Ohio State University, where classes resume on Tuesday, this week issued more than 200 interim suspensions for students following a string of large parties where health and safety rules were largely ignored, according to media reports.

Last week, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill cancelled in-class instruction after positive cases of Covid-19 shot up dramatically.

Will America ever learn to put human life above Wall Street's interests (my experiences with OSHA for example says NO!)?
