If you live in the barracks you must register all firearms with the PM and then your organizational commander will issue a receipt and provide a secure place for your weapon. If you live in base housing you must register all weapons with the PM and keep them secure. If you live off base, I don't think you have to register you weapons. I don't know it he lived on or off base.
