They are evacuating South Lake Tahoe :(

Traffic nightmare as Caldor Fire forces evacuation of South Lake Tahoe

Traffic is gridlocked throughout most of South Lake Tahoe as the city rushes to evacuate ahead of the raging Caldor Fire.

Mandatory evacuation orders were imposed late Monday morning ahead of a red flag warning for gusting winds that is expected to last until 11 p.m. Wednesday. With highways 50, 88 and 89 all closed below the Tahoe Basin, people are being funneled out of town toward the Nevada state line. Anyone wishing to head toward Sacramento or the Bay Area cannot do it directly via Highway 50; they must drive north to connect up with I-80 near Truckee.

Giuliani's PR Guru Resigns as Legal Walls Close In

Rudy Giuliani's high-profile, 22-year-old communications director has resigned amid Giuliani's mounting legal troubles.

As Rudy Giuliani navigates an increasingly lonely and stormy world amid a federal investigation and a billion-dollar defamation suit, he’ll now have to do so without his young but trusted communications director.

Christianné Allen, the 22-year-old MAGA influencer who joined Giuliani’s team in August 2019, has resigned her post at Giuliani Communications LLC effective this week, The Daily Beast has learned.

Allen says she has been replaced by Todd Shapiro, a former spokesperson for Lindsay Lohan’s family who also claims to have represented Trump properties, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), and Hooters of Long Island and New Jersey.

Allen, who traveled extensively with Giuliani and spearheaded a number of efforts to modernize and expand the former New York mayor’s social media and digital presence, said in a statement that she felt “incredibly blessed” to have served the role, and was signing on with a new startup company whose name she wasn’t at liberty to reveal yet.

Jan. 6 investigators demand records from social media companies

The select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection is seeking a massive tranche of records from social media companies, on whose platforms many defendants charged in the Capitol attack planned and coordinated their actions.

In a series of letters dated Aug. 26, the Democratic-controlled panel asked the companies, which include Facebook, Google, Twitter, Parler, 4chan, Twitch and TikTok, for all records and documents since April 1, 2020, relating to misinformation around the 2020 election, efforts to overturn the 2020 election, domestic violent extremists associated with efforts to overturn the election and foreign influence in the 2020 election.

Court upholds death sentence for Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof

RICHMOND, Va. (WCSC) - The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the death sentence for Dylann Roof in the 2015 shooting that killed nine members of a Charleston church.

“No cold record or careful parsing of statutes and precedents can capture the full horror of what Roof did,” the court’s ruling states. “His crimes qualify him for the harshest penalty that a just society can impose.”

The ruling also stated that when he was arrested, “he frankly confessed, with barely a hint of remorse.”

“Dylann Roof murdered African Americans at their church, during their Bible-study and worship,” the court’s decision states. “They had welcomed him. He slaughtered them. He did so with the express intent of terrorizing not just his immediate victims at the historically important Mother Emanuel Church, but as many similar people as would hear of the mass murder. He used the internet to plan his attack and, using his crimes as a catalyst, intended to foment racial division and strife across America. He wanted the widest possible publicity for his atrocities, and, to that end, he purposefully left one person alive in the church “to tell the story.”

Skeleton couple from 1,500 years ago discovered in 'eternal love' embrace together

True love has seemingly been found – in the form of an embrace 15 centuries ago.

Archaeologists in northern China discovered two ancient skeletons holding each other with their arms wrapped around the other's waist and the woman pressed up against the man's shoulders. According to the South China Morning Post, the remains likely belonged to a man and woman from the Northern Wei period – 1,500 years ago, when Buddhism was heightening.

“The message was clear – husband and wife lay together, embracing each other for eternal love during the afterlife,” the authors in the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology wrote.

"Burials of love and burials with love must be abundant. However, evidence of direct materialization of love in burials (such as Taj Mahal) has been rare, and rarer in skeletal forms."

Trumpworld Pleads Ignorance on New Rally for Capitol Rioters

D.C. police are on high alert ahead of a planned September rally in support of imprisoned Jan. 6 riot suspects, but those close to the ringleader of the original rally want nothing to do with it.

Playing on popular pro-Trump talking points, the rally scheduled for Sept. 18 calls for the release of alleged Capitol rioters currently held in a Washington, D.C., jail, whom it characterizes as “political prisoners.” The event has the city’s police planning a “full activation,” with all officers ready to respond.

But despite its popularity with Proud Boys, and its origin with a former Trump campaign official, in the upper ranks of Trumpworld the event isn’t even on the radar. Of the eight individuals—close associates of the ex-president, as well as former Trump White House officials and 2020 campaign brass—most of them hadn’t even heard of the Sept. 18 rally until The Daily Beast contacted them this week. Almost all of them said they wanted nothing to do with it. “I hadn’t heard [about it],” said a former senior aide on the Trump re-election campaign. “I think Jan. 6 defendants are being massively abused, for sure. But doubt I’d partake in any event.”

Furthermore, two people familiar with the matter say they aren’t aware of former President Donald Trump—who since leaving office has defended Jan. 6 rioters—even receiving an invitation to the Sept. 18 demonstration.

Lester Holt to interview Capitol Police officer who shot Ashli Babbitt

NBC News’s Lester Holt will interview the Capitol Police officer who shot Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the network announced.

The interview, set to air Thursday, will be the first time the officer publicly reveals his identity since the events of that day. It will also come days after Capitol Police formally exonerated the officer after an internal review found that the officer’s actions were justified.

Babbitt, 35, was one of five people who died as a result of the riot which saw supporters of former President Trump storm the Capitol as Congress prepared to certify the Electoral College results for the 2020 election.

Babbitt was shot as she tried to enter the Speaker’s Gallery just off the House floor. A group of people had slammed through a window in the gallery, which Babbitt was trying to climb through.

Jan. 6 Select Committee Probe Expands To Trump And Top Officials In A Wave Of Demands

The House select committee charged with investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has issued a wave of record requests targeting communications by former President Donald Trump and his top officials in the lead-up to the deadly riot.

It marks the most widespread list of demands since the siege, directing letters to eight federal entities, including the National Archives and Records Administration, which is charged with maintaining records for past White House administrations. The demands could be followed by subpoenas.

They target communications by Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence and other top officials as well as White House visitor and call logs related to the day of the attack. Other agencies also included in the wave of requests include the Justice, Defense and Interior departments.

New COVID-19 symptom emerging, doctors say

*snip*

“This morning I woke up with a sore throat and earache, so I went and got tested,” he said Sunday.

Doctors say this symptom is being reported more and more by patients, many of them thinking it’s just an earache, but it turns out, they have the virus.

Dr. Nicole Frommann is the medical director for TGH Urgent Care, Powered by Fast Track. She tells 8 On Your Side the new delta variant is different than alpha.

“The reason we are seeing earaches more often is because sore throat is so prominent, and the earache is coming from sore throat.”
