Jan. 6 Select Committee Probe Expands To Trump And Top Officials In A Wave Of Demands

The House select committee charged with investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has issued a wave of record requests targeting communications by former President Donald Trump and his top officials in the lead-up to the deadly riot.

It marks the most widespread list of demands since the siege, directing letters to eight federal entities, including the National Archives and Records Administration, which is charged with maintaining records for past White House administrations. The demands could be followed by subpoenas.

They target communications by Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence and other top officials as well as White House visitor and call logs related to the day of the attack. Other agencies also included in the wave of requests include the Justice, Defense and Interior departments.

New COVID-19 symptom emerging, doctors say

*snip*

“This morning I woke up with a sore throat and earache, so I went and got tested,” he said Sunday.

Doctors say this symptom is being reported more and more by patients, many of them thinking it’s just an earache, but it turns out, they have the virus.

Dr. Nicole Frommann is the medical director for TGH Urgent Care, Powered by Fast Track. She tells 8 On Your Side the new delta variant is different than alpha.

“The reason we are seeing earaches more often is because sore throat is so prominent, and the earache is coming from sore throat.”

Lindsey Graham: 'I think Joe Biden deserves to be impeached'

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday that President Biden should be impeached for his handling of the withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“I think he should be impeached,” Graham said during a segment on Newsmax.

“I think Joe Biden deserves to be impeached because he’s abandoned thousands of Afghans who fought with us and he’s going to abandon some American citizens because he capitulated to the Taliban to a 31 August deadline,” he added.

Biden said his administration will stick to the Aug. 31 deadline he set earlier in the year to withdraw all U.S. troops from the area. The U.S. has already evacuated tens of thousands of Afghan allies and U.S. citizens from the region.

MyPillow launches yet another effort to get Dominion's defamation lawsuit dismissed

Attorneys for Mike Lindell's pillow company are making yet another effort to dismiss a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems.

In court filings Tuesday, the lawyers asked the judge overseeing the case if an appeals court can reconsider the legal standards that allow Dominion to proceed with its lawsuits. The company first filed its lawsuit against Lindell and MyPillow in February, as Lindell promoted false conspiracy theories about the election technology firm's role in the 2020 election.

The CEO had pushed the theories in part to promote sales for MyPillow products, Dominion alleged. Lindell has continued to promote the false theories and hosted a "symposium" about them earlier in August.

Lawyers for Lindell and MyPillow, each named as separate defendants, have tried to get the lawsuit dismissed, arguing that the CEO's claims could not be considered defamatory because they were made as part of political discourse. But US District Judge Carl J. Nichols ruled that Dominion's lawsuit against them — as well as parallel ones against Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, who promoted other false theories about Dominion — could move forward.

State officials open investigation into whether Larry Elder failed to disclose income sources

California regulators have launched an investigation into whether recall election gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder failed to properly disclose his income sources, a spokesman with the Fair Political Practices Commission confirmed on Sunday.

Elder, like all candidates for public office, was required to file a public statement of economic interests that discloses some aspects of his personal finances, including stocks, gifts, real estate that he owns and sources of income. The document is supposed to show the public whether a candidate for office would have conflicts of interest in his or her decisions.

Elder’s initial filing was only two pages long and only showed income from Laurence A. Elder and Associates Inc. A Times article earlier this month first reported that Elder likely failed to properly disclose his finances because he appeared to own the company, meaning he was also required to report ownership in the business as well as income sources to the company above certain amounts.

After the Times story, the California Democratic Party filed a complaint with the Fair Political Practices Commission alleging that Elder failed to properly disclose the business and its sources of income. Elder, a conservative radio show host, amended the document to show that Elder owned 100% of the company and that it is worth between $100,000 and $1 million. His exact wealth is difficult to determine because the state requires disclosure in broad dollar ranges.

City hosting Trump rally in Alabama declares COVID-19 emergency

Cullman, Ala., on Thursday declared a COVID-19-related state of emergency ahead of a scheduled Alabama GOP rally featuring former President Trump on Saturday as Alabama struggles with a surge in new infections and a shortage of hospital beds.

The state of emergency declaration allows the city to provide additional resources for the rally, a request that was made by the chief operating office of Cullman Regional Medical Center, which is experiencing overcrowding amid a spike in coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

Alabama saw 3,890 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with a seven-day moving average of about 3,000 new infections, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Covid Data Tracker. Cullman Regional’s latest update on Wednesday showed that the hospital was treating 56 coronavirus patients, including 12 people who are on ventilators.

The Alabama Hospital Association also revealed on Wednesday that the state has run out of intensive care unit beds, reporting a 29-bed deficit.
