AK-at large: Mary Peltola (D) is edging closer to 50%, is it looking like she'll win outright

in the first round?

Depending on which source I look, either 83% of the votes are counted for 90% of the votes are counted... so I'm not sure which one is more accurate.

Unanimous CA3 panel says 2nd Amendment's history and tradition shows fed gov't can enforce its

Mike Sacks
@MikeSacksEsq

Unanimous CA3 panel (Obama, Obama, GHWB) says 2nd Amendment’s history and tradition shows fed gov’t can enforce its firearm possession ban against a dude convicted of a nonviolent felony-equivalent state offense https://www2.ca3.uscourts.gov/opinarch/212835p.pdf

Then-Judge Amy Coney Barrett begged to differ back in 2019, and I think now-Justice Barrett and her five fellow SCOTUS conservatives will be interested in making her dissent then law now https://media.ca7.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/rssExec.pl?Submit=Display&Path=Y2019/D03-15/C:18-1478:J:Flaum:aut:T:fnOp:N:2309276:S:0

(That Barrett dissent became a thing at her confirmation hearings because she had suggested that nonviolent felons could be stripped of their right to vote but not their right to bear arms) https://media.ca7.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/rssExec.pl?Submit=Display&Path=Y2019/D03-15/C:18-1478:J:Flaum:aut:T:fnOp:N:2309276:S:0

Trump Judge rules that barring individuals under federal indictment from acquiring a firearm

Trump Judge Patrick Wyrick rules that a federal law barring individuals from acquiring a firearm while under federal indictment violates the Second Amendment. Read the decision here: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.okwd.118186/gov.uscourts.okwd.118186.58.0.pdf

Another day, another maximalist reading of the 2nd Am.

This court, like one other so far, says the 2A forbids govt from barring receipt of a gun while a person is under felony indictment.

It says *10* historical laws isn't enough & even antebellum tradition can be too late.

In Ky. Supreme Court abortion argument, justices seemed unimpressed by AG arguments

Lexington Herald-Leader via Yahoo News

Kentucky’s Supreme Court justices did not seem to be buying many of the arguments made yesterday by Kentucky Solicitor General Matt Kuhn on an injunction against the state’s trigger law and the six-week abortion ban.

When Kuhn said abortion was never mentioned amid the creation of Kentucky’s Constitution in 1891, Justice Lisabeth Hughes helpfully pointed out that “women did not have the right to vote,” back then, nor own property, not take part in those deliberations. Moreover abortion with the consent of the mother before “quickening” — when a pregnant woman can start to feel a baby move — was legal in Kentucky in the 1800s.

Nor did Hughes think much of Kuhn’s boss, Attorney General and governor wanna-be Daniel Cameron saying last week that the justices could just ignore the defeat of Amendment 2, which would have explicitly denied the right to an abortion in the constitution. The vote, she said, was “the purest form of democracy.”

Justice Keller said that it’s not at all clear what the trigger law covers and doesn’t cover. “This exception for the life of the mother does not allow the mother to make any of her own decisions.” If a woman is suffering from an ectopic pregnancy or preeclampsia, she could die before the legal decisions get made.
