That NYC subway attacker is a lawyer! Seriously!

I couldn't believe it when I found out a few minutes ago. But, I checked her bar membership and it is true! It brings more shame to my profession .

Trump's self-congratulatory party molested Ben E. King's "Stand By Me".

Everything this guy touches turns to crap. One of my favorite songs of all time absolutely molested by this creep.

Results for July 2018 California Bar Exam have been released. Historically low overall pass rate.

http://www.calbar.ca.gov/About-Us/News-Events/News-Releases/state-bar-releases-july-2018-bar-exam-results

"Today the State Bar of California released the results of the July 2018 California Bar Exam, and announced that 3,284 people (40.7 percent of applicants) passed the General Bar Exam. The pass rate for first-time applicants was 55 percent. If those applicants satisfy all other requirements for admission, they will be eligible to be licensed by the State Bar to practice law in California. The mean scaled Multistate Bar Examination score on the July 2018 Bar Exam in California was 1404 compared with the national average of 1395."

I don't get how they can call it for Cruz when Houston was only 16% reported!

Dallas area was only around 25% reported as well. Cruz was only up 150k votes!! It just doesn't make sense to me.

I wish the media would focus on these Trump quotes to highlight his "unity" hypocrisy..

"I'd like to punch him in the face" 2/23/16

"Maybe he should have been roughed up" 11/22/15

"Part of the problem is no one wants to hurt each other anymore" 3/16

"I don't know if I'll do the fighting myself or if other people will" 8/11/15

"The audience hit back. That's what we need a little bit more of" 3/11/16

"If you do (hurt him), I'll defend you in court, don't worry about it" 3/4/16

"I'll beat the crap out of you" 3/12/16

"Knock the crap out of him, would you? I promise you, I will pay your legal fees" 2/16

Say hello to the newest Public Defender in California.

I start on Monday. Initially, I will mainly be conducting legal research, client interviews, and assisting other senior attys in trials. This Spring, I should be given a case load consisting of low level misdemeanor charges.

I want to thank DU for all the positive and inspirational comments you posted in my last thread. Per your suggestions, I have scheduled an appointment at my original high school to speak to students. I do not know if my original guidance counselor is still at the school though. I will see.

My high school counselor said I wasn't "college material". Well, guess who passed the CA bar exam?

A little background: I never took anything past Freshman English in high school. There was some sort of loophole that allowed counselors to put certain students into "lower tracks". So my class schedule consisted mostly of shop classes (auto shop, wood shop, "study period", home econ, etc). I asked my counselor about the English class issue. She said, and I am paraphrasing: "Those classes are for college prep students, and you're not college material." I felt so worthless at that moment. Please note that I am not trying to diminish the value of blue collar professions. It's just that the way she treated me seemed like I was not worthy of her guidance.

So after I graduated high school, I went with the community college route. I had to attend CC for three years before I could transfer to a university because many of my classes were remedial in nature (Algebra, Geometry, English, etc.). Anyhow, I kept at it largely because I knew I could handle the coursework. I just needed the opportunity to develop the skills needed to succeed. Well, I eventually transferred to a university. After graduation, I attended law school, graduated, and finally passed the CA bar exam.

Let this serve as a reminder that there will always be negative people who will discourage you from chasing your dreams. Use these naysayers as motivation. Develop a "chip on your shoulder."

"Crazy Rich Asians" movie is an insult to the Malay people and South Asians in general.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/political-scientist-crazy-rich-asians-represents-worst-singapore-151158657.html

I saw this movie last night, and I am embarrassed by it. As an Asian myself, it seems like Hollywood just can't stop pigeonholing Asians into neat little acceptable categories. Entire swaths of minority Asians have been relegated as servants in this movie. Segments of the Asian community shoulders some blame as well, when they let Hollywood perpetuate these stereotypes.
