Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed sweeping legislation to eliminate cash bail in California. The change, which will take effect in October 2019, goes further than any other state in the country to remove money from pretrial detention.
Today, California reforms its bail system so that rich and poor alike are treated fairly, Brown said in a statement.
Under Senate Bill 10, California will replace bail with risk assessments of individuals and nonmonetary conditions of release. Counties will establish local agencies to evaluate any individual arrested on felony charges for their likelihood of returning for court hearings and their chances of re-arrest.

Do we know when Allen Weisselberg was granted immunity?
I know the story came out on Friday but certainly he had been interviewed before then. Trump knew that he was being interviewed. I am reminded of what Guilianni threatened about going after Ivanna a couple of months ago.
Also, it is unclear to me what kind of immunity does Weisselberg have. The Hill states that the immunity is only for the payments made to Daniels and the Playboy bunny. While I read here on DU somewhere that Weisselberg has total immunity??
Just wondering how deep into the foundation can the prosecutors and investigators probe.

Steyer to launch $1M ad spot targeting Cohen allegations against Trump
Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer's campaign to impeach President Trump is set to drop its latest ad spot on Monday, this time warning the president could seek to pardon himself in the face of mounting legal pressure.
The $1 million-plus ad spot, set to air nationwide on Monday, comes days after Trump's former longtime lawyer Michael Cohen admitted in court that he violated campaign finance laws at the president's behest by making hush-money payments to two women.
"How much more does Congress need to see? Donald Trump has now been implicated in two felony crimes, and he's all but confessed to them on Fox News," Steyer says in the 30-second spot, which was shared with The Hill on Saturday.
"No one is the above the law, so we have to make sure this president doesn't use pardons to cover up crimes," he continues. "The Washington establishment doesn't have the courage to act. But the American people can."

ROGER STONE: MUELLER WILL SOON INDICT DONALD TRUMP JR. FOR 'LYING TO THE FBI'
Roger Stone, a former Donald Trump aide whos long been linked with special counsel Robert Muellers investigation into Russian election interference, said he believes one of the presidents sons, Donald Trump Jr., will soon be indicted for lying to the FBI.
I [predict], based on excellent sourcing, that the special counsel is going to charge Donald Trump Jr. with lying to the FBI, Stone told James Miller of the conservative online outlet The Political Insider. Notice theyre not charging him for having an illegal meeting with a Russian at Trump Tower because theres nothing illegal about that meeting.
Stone was referring to a controversial June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump Jr. and other members of the campaign and a Russian lawyer who offered damaging information on then-candidate Trumps opponent, Hillary Clinton.
There has been, as yet, no confirmation that Trump Jr. had met with the FBI to discuss that or anything else. Stone did not immediately respond to a request from Newsweeks on Saturday to clarify his comments, and confirm whether he was aware of a previously unknown interview the FBI conducted with Trump Jr.

I'm ready to testify at president's impeachment trial, Omarosa says
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/trump-news-live-updates-president-sessions-twitter-midterms-2018-impeachment-omarosa-cohen-manafort-a8506056.htmlDonald Trump's disastrous week continues to rumble on, as the US president attempts to change a narrative that is swiftly spiralling out of his control.
On Tuesday, two former associates of Mr Trump were convicted of a number of charges, with the president's former lawyer admitting to a pair of campaign finance violations during the presidential election.
Me thinks that Mueller is pissed about all the public insults
he has received via Trump. Bob has Don by the short hairs. It is going to get gnarly real soon.
So does Pecker get dragged before a Grand Jury or does
he just spill his guts to investigators?
New York City moves to revoke Michael Cohen's taxi medallions
New York City is giving President Trump's former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen a chance to divest his 10 city taxi cab medallions, which are needed to own and operate the city's iconic yellow cabs. If Cohen doesn't divest his stake in the medallions, they will be revoked, the city says.
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) says it "intends to revoke" the medallions following Cohen's guilty pleas on charges of fraud and campaign finance violations, according to a letter addressed to him from Andrew Rabin, the prosecuting attorney for the commission.
The TLC will allow Cohen an opportunity to salvage some value from the medallions by giving him until Sept. 10 to sell or transfer ownership of them. Otherwise, they will be formally revoked, according to the letter.
