"The New Colossus" is a sonnet that American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–1887) wrote in 1883 to raise money for the construction of a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty.[2] In 1903, the poem was cast onto a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level.

The love of my life fell ill last week and ended up in the hospital.

We planned on bringing our baby boy to the polls together today.

Over the weekend I made three trips back and forth from the hospital to the Supervisor of Elections office in order to get proper documentation, affidavits, signatures and ballot. She was hospitalized one day to late for the more simple process to be used. It was one of the most painful weekends of my life as all I wanted to do was hold my wife. All I wanted to do was hold my wife. All I wanted to do was hold my wife. All she wanted to do was vote. I gave up time with her, my job, and my son in order to fulfill her wish. I delivered it directly to the Supervisor of Elections office and they accepted the signature on the spot. Said it wasn't being sent "upstairs". I broke down in tears. Her ballot was straight D.

This morning I went with my son(21 months) to vote. We did so with heavy hearts. Truthfully, my son just misses his mom, he is not allowed where she is at, and only comprehends that she all of the sudden wasn't around. That is the burden of his pain. We have no clue as to her future but do know her wish has been fulfilled.

While the process took a considerable amount of time and was a pain, I can see the reason for each step they had. I want to thank the Supervisor of Elections office staff for how helpful they were. At every step. On the phone. In person. And to me as a human being. I never break-down. I fell to the floor in tears at their office. They held me. They comforted me. I just wanted to be with my wife.

DNC Chair Tom Perez says Democrats have stepped up Latino voter outreach

AUSTIN, Texas — Democratic Party Chairman Tom Perez is pushing back on criticism of the party’s outreach to Latinos, saying there has been “important and substantial investment in Latino voters across the country.”

“I knew when I took this job we needed to up our game in every community,” Perez, the first Latino to head the Democratic Party, told NBC News on Monday.

Perez said work started before the midterm election cycle and included helping to get Annette Taddeo elected to the Florida state Senate and increasing the Latino vote for Democratic wins in Virginia.

The party has invested upward of $3 million in 15 states in the run-up to the midterms on organizing, voter registration, digital strategies, radio ads and more. “And I’m proud of the work we’ve done,” Perez said.

A deep, deep discount on dinner in Hillsborough with Steve Bannon

The Hillsborough County Republican Party has cut the prices for its Oct. 26 fundraising dinner with former Donald Trump political strategist Steve Bannon.

"New prices! We want to pack the house!!!" says a posting on the party's web site.

The premier "chairman's table" at the event, where Bannon will be seated, originally advertised at $20,000 for 10 VIP seats, has dropped to $5,000. VIP tickets have gone from $1,000 to $300, general admission from $125 to $50, and $15 student tickets — no meal or alcohol — have been added.

Nancy Pelosi suggests subpoena power could be useful tool in negotiating with Trump

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi pledged Monday to use subpoena power purposefully if Democrats win a majority in the House in November, adding that the power is a potent tool for negotiating.

"Subpoena power is interesting, to use it or not to use it," Pelosi told Dana Bash at the day-long CITIZEN Conference put on by CNN. "It's a great arrow to have in your quiver in terms of negotiating on other subjects."

Subpoena power, something that would allow House Democrats to call Trump administration officials to testify before Congress as long as they are in power, could be considered one of the most powerful tools Democrats would gain if they win in November.

Russian national charged with attempting to interfere in 2018 midterms

A Russian who allegedly worked on funding online propaganda efforts to manipulate voters in the 2016 and 2018 elections was charged with a federal crime Friday as part of a wider conspiracy to hurt American democracy.

Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova, 44, of St. Petersburg, Russia, is charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States for managing the financing of the social media troll operation that included the Internet Research Agency, which special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators charged with crimes earlier this year.

Prosecutors who unsealed the complaint Friday say she aided the Russian effort to "inflame passions" online related to immigration, gun control and the Second Amendment, the Confederate flag, race relations, LGBT issues, the Women's March and the NFL National Anthem debate from December 2016 until May 2018.
