Japan's mystery ball removed from the beach

Source: BBC

By Shaimaa Khalil
Tokyo correspondent

A metal sphere that washed up on a beach in Japan, perplexing locals and setting off widespread speculation, has been removed, according to local media.

Pictures showed a heavy lifting machine picking up the huge sphere.

Local officials in Hamamatsu said that it will be stored "for a certain period of time" then "disposed of".

But many have also questioned why Japanese officials have not come out and clearly said what it is.

Velshi: Trump created the opportunity for Putin in Ukraine

On July 25th of 2019, Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a now infamous phone call. “We are ready to continue to cooperate for the next steps.,” said Zelenskyy. “We are almost ready to buy more Javelins from the United States for defense purposes.” To which Donald Trump responded, “I would like you to do us a favor, though.” Anyone with an ounce of foresight could predict “I would like you to do us a favor” would not end well. Trump was impeached by the House but ultimately faced zero repercussions.

For Ukraine, the consequences were far more serious. Ukraine and its new untested, uncorrupt leader needed to be taken seriously on the world stage, in order to fend off Russian aggression. Instead, Donald Trump chose to try and leverage the situation for his own personal gain. The freezing of U.S. military aid and a shakedown by the President of the United States cost Zelenskyy in terms of power, respect and his authority against Vladimir Putin. Russia saw the undermining of Zelenskyy as an opportunity to invade, because Ukraine didn't appear to have the universal backing of the United States.

And that’s on Donald Trump.

'Everything to make them smile:' Montreal Canadiens host Ukrainian peewee team

The Montreal Canadiens gave the Ukraine Selects peewee team a chance to momentarily forget about the horrors of the Russian invasion on Tuesday.

The Ukraine Selects defeated Team Romania Wolves 2-0 on Monday to extend their three-week stay in Quebec City and move on in the tournament.

Shortly after, the players got word that they would be travelling to Montreal and be special guests at the Habs' game against the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.

...

Following morning skate, Montreal coach Martin St. Louis told reporters that his father "missed the Canadiens game to go see the Ukraine Selects" for their 3-1 win over the Boston Junior Bruins last Saturday.

North Korea's ICBM-studded military parade attended by Kim Jong-un's daughter...

And as widely expected North Korea staged a massive military parade late Wednesday to mark the founding anniversary of its army.

It featured the largest number of missiles in the history of its parades including what's presumed to be a new ICBM.

Our defense affairs correspondent Oh Soo-young has more.

North Korea's largest-ever military parade was yet another message of defiance against denuclearization, with the regime's newest missiles on display and the next generation of the ruling Kim family attending the night-time event.

State media Korean Central News Agency on Thursday released images of the regime's 75th army founding anniversary which kicked off the night before.

Among the array of weaponry moving across Kim Il-sung Square, official photos and satellite imagery showed what appeared to be eleven Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The Hwasong-17 is reportedly the largest road-mobile liquid-fueled ICBM in the world, and is capable of reaching the United States mainland.

The ICBM was largely expected to appear in the parade, and international observers speculate the North is working on upgrading the missile with a solid fuel engine, which offers a more stable and rapid lift-off.
But what stole the show were the large missile canisters atop five new 18-wheel launch vehicles.

They're believed to contain new solid engine ICBMs under development.

"Those canister ICBMs are probably just for the moment prototypes. They're probably not anywhere near deployable. And maybe not even operational, but they're showing the direction that they're going in. And given the fact that it, we are relatively certain that North Korea's had at least two and possibly even more solid fuel static engine tests that they're moving towards accomplishing their task at some point."

In addition to quantitative progress in its missile technology, the expert says the sheer number of missiles displayed at the parade sends a message to the United States.

"The number of ICBMs, you know, indicates that North Korea's trying to show the United States that missile defense is a losing bet, that it will always be possible, or most of the time will be possible for North Korea to build ICBMs faster and cheaper than the United States can build interceptors as a part of the missile defense, you know, network for the homeland United States."

Another surprising factor was the attendance of Kim Jong-un's young daughter Kim Ju-ae, reported by state media.

Experts say her presence reinforces the message that Pyongyang sees its nuclear prowess as the future for its younger generation, hinting it will not be scrapping its nuclear weapons program.

An estimated 22-thousand people were mobilized at the milestone event, making it the largest parade the regime has ever held.
