Jane Roberts, the wife of Chief Justice John Roberts, acknowledges having represented a wide variety of public officials including senior Justice Department officials and Cabinet members as they transitioned to jobs in the private sector, according to testimony in an arbitration hearing to resolve a lawsuit filed by an ex-colleague against her former legal recruiting business.
A partial transcript of that testimony was included in a complaint submitted to the House, Senate and Justice Department filed in December on behalf of the former colleague.

Jane Roberts placements included at least one firm with a prominent Supreme Court practice, according to the complaint, which also includes sworn testimony from Roberts herself, in which she notes the powerful officials whose agencies have had frequent cases before her husband for whom she has worked.
A significant portion of my practice on the partner side is with senior government lawyers, ranging from U.S. attorneys, cabinet officials, former senators, chairmen of federal commissions, general counsel of federal commissions, and then senior political appointees within the ranks of various agencies, and I -- they come to me looking to transition to the private sector, Roberts said, according to a transcript of a 2015 arbitration hearing related to her former colleagues termination.
In her testimony, Roberts also noted the benefit of working with senior government officials: Successful people have successful friends.

A photograph of a six-year-old boy pointing a gun at the camera has sparked an argument between the photographers agency Reuters and the family of the child.
The photo was taken at the annual National Rifle Association (NRA) convention on April 15 and has been called a set-up by the boys family who say they did not give consent.
However, Reuters has hit back saying that their photographer Evelyn Hockstein clearly introduced herself to adults as a photojournalist.

The boys father, Nathan Eckhart, accuses the photographer of setting the photo up so that it looked like [his son] took the gun and was aiming it at her face.

Law firm head bought Gorsuch-owned property
Source: Politico
For nearly two years beginning in 2015, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch sought a buyer for a 40-acre tract of property he co-owned in rural Granby, Colo.
Nine days after he was confirmed by the Senate for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court, the then-circuit court judge got one: The chief executive of Greenberg Traurig, one of the nations biggest law firms with a robust practice before the high court. Gorsuch owned the property with two other individuals.
On April 16 of 2017, Greenbergs Brian Duffy put under contract the 3,000-square foot log home on the Colorado River and nestled in the mountains northwest of Denver, according to real estate records.
He and his wife closed on the house a month later, paying $1.825 million, according to a deed in the countys record system. Gorsuch, who held a 20 percent stake, reported making between $250,001 and $500,000 from the sale on his federal disclosure forms.

A little context missing from the noise cycle:
In 2007, Rupert Murdoch slipped $1.5 million into Clarence Thomas pocket.
Clarence Thomas and Rupert Murdoch

The long-awaited publication of Clarence Thomass memoir, "My Grandfathers Son," out Monday, makes you wonder: how come none of the presidential candidates have said a word about the Supreme Court in any of their debates? Three sitting justices are expected to resign in the next four yearsand theyre all on the liberal side: John Paul Stevens, David Souter, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The publication facts behind Thomass book ought to be discussed by all the candidates: he received an advance of $1.5 million in 2003 from HarperCollins, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch. If you thought the Court dealt with any issues of relevance to Murdoch, you might call it a conflict of interest for Thomas to accept that paymentfar more than any sitting justice ever received from any single source. At least you might mention the fabled "appearance of impropriety." You might call the $1.5 million a thank-you gift from Murdoch for services rendered. You might even wonder if it might be a subtle suggestion to other justices who will be ruling on Murdoch-related issues in the future.
Of course Thomas could avoid that "appearance of impropriety" by recusing himself for the rest of his career from any case raising issues concerning Murdoch, Fox, the First Amendment, copyright law, libel, or any other issues in media or communications law. That would give him a lot of time off.

As for Thomass memoir, its a long howl of outrage against the liberals who opposed his confirmation 16 years ago. The book was treated by HarperCollins as if it were the next Harry Potter "embargoed" until Oct. 1, the first day of the Supreme Courts fall term a total clampdown that made it impossible for anyone to buy the book until Monday morning. I tried to buy it at my local Barnes and Noble Sunday night at 10 pm, and was told by a nervous manager that if they sold it to me even two hours before the "embargo" ended, "the publisher would see it on the computer and wed be fined."
Yet somehow Rush Limbaugh managed to get hold of a copy Thomas appeared on his show for a full ninety minutes Monday morning. (Maybe the fact that Thomas presided at Rushs wedding was a factor here an unprecedented act for a sitting Justice.) Murdochs Fox News was next in line, with a Sean Hannity interview Tuesday.
