1978. Cher. In drag. Singing all the parts in West Side Story.

So many layers of awesome.

https://www.onstageblog.com/columns//west-side-story-with-cher

"This comes from her Cher…Special which originally aired in April of 1978. Other segments include guests Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart, cast as neighbors in an apartment building, performing their hit songs "Two Doors Down" (Parton) and "Hot Legs" (Stewart); Cher and Dolly having a conversation consisting entirely of song titles and lyrics from pop songs; and Cher working by day in a boring secretarial job but dancing at night in the discos.

It was honored with a Technical Emmy Award for "Best Achievement in Lighting Direction". It also received an Emmy nomination for "Best Art Direction for a Comedy-Variety or Musical Special" and Dolly Parton was also nominated for an Emmy in the category of "Best Supporting Actress in a Variety or Musical Special"

The show actually begins on a somewhat poignant note. Cher steps into the spotlight, made up to look like a younger version of herself with her hair in pigtails. The young Cher sits on the floor and tells her mother that she is upset because she is not blonde and she says that all the pretty girls have blonde hair and blue eyes. Her mother tells her daughter that she is beautiful and someday she will realize just how special she really is.

Cher tells her mother that she will try to understand and explains that she got into the record albums so that she could learn the songs from West Side Story for school. When her mother asks Cher what part she is going to play, Cher replies, "all of them".

Here’s the clip."

Justice Coney Barrett has a simple way to back up her statement about pregnancy...

Justice Coney Barrett could absolutely back up her claim that full term pregnancy and giving birth to a child that you don't intend to raise is clearly not a burden for any healthy woman because 'they can just drop off the newborn at a Safe Haven site' and continue on with their lives.

She could offer up the use of her body for nine months as a surrogate and be an example to all the women (and girls) that she is expecting to do exactly that.

She could demonstrate personally how giving birth to a baby to hand over to someone else doesn't affect her career, her family or her emotional health and well being in any significant way.

I'm surprised she hasn't announced her intention to do so.

Florida Students Are No Longer Required To Quarantine After Being Exposed To COVID

That's one way DeSantis can cut spending on salaries for older, more experienced, higher-paid teachers.

"A day after assuming his job, Florida's newly appointed surgeon general on Wednesday signed new protocols allowing parents to decide whether their children should quarantine or stay in school if they are asymptomatic after being exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

The new guidelines signed by Dr. Joseph Ladapo also tweaked the state's prohibition against school mask mandates, prompting an administrative law judge to dismiss a lawsuit against the old rule that had been filed by various school boards.

In terms of quarantine rules, Ladapo eliminated previous mandates requiring students to quarantine for at least four days off-campus if they've been exposed. Under the new guidelines, students who have been exposed can continue going to campus, "without restrictions or disparate treatment," provided they are asymptomatic. They can also quarantine, but no longer than seven days, provided they do not get sick."

"DeSantis named Ladapo to the job on Tuesday. Ladapo, who previously was a UCLA doctor and health policy researcher, shares the governor's approach to managing the coronavirus pandemic. Like DeSantis, Ladapo has said he doesn't believe in school closures, lockdowns or vaccine mandates."

A FL Boy Went to a COVID-Swamped ER. He Waited for Hours. Then His Appendix Burst.

This is how the COVID unvaccinated are a danger to everyone else - even the vaccinated. Next time I see one of those "If you're vaccinated, why do you care if I'm not?" memes, I'm sharing this.

"Seth was finally diagnosed with appendicitis more than six hours after arriving at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health North Hospital in late July. Around midnight, he was taken by ambulance to a sister hospital about a half-hour away that was better equipped to perform pediatric emergency surgery, his father said.

But by the time the doctor operated in the early morning hours, Seth’s appendix had burst — a potentially fatal complication.

As the nation’s hospitals fill and emergency rooms overflow with critically ill COVID-19 patients, it is the non-COVID-19 patients, like Seth, who have become collateral damage. They, too, need emergency care, but the sheer number of COVID-19 cases is crowding them out. Treatment has often been delayed as ERs scramble to find a bed that may be hundreds of miles away.

Some health officials now worry about looming ethical decisions. Last week, Idaho activated a “crisis standard of care,” which one official described as a “last resort.” It allows overwhelmed hospitals to ration care, including “in rare cases, ventilator (breathing machines) or intensive care unit (ICU) beds may need to be used for those who are most likely to survive, while patients who are not likely to survive may not be able to receive one,” the state’s website said."

So, the GOP gave Newsom an opportunity for a second landslide victory for the same term

It would be funnier if they hadn't spent a quarter BILLION dollars of taxpayer money doing it.

Veronica Wolski, Woman Who QAnoners Demanded Hospital Treat COVID With Ivermectin, Dies

Source: Newsweek

A woman who became the center of a harassment campaign against a Chicago hospital as QAnon supporters demanded they treat her COVID-19 diagnosis with ivermectin has died, according to reports.

Veronica Wolski, a popular QAnon advocate best known for hanging banners from a bridge in Chicago, died in the early hours of Monday morning after spending weeks in hospital with COVID-19.

Her death was announced on Telegram by conspiracy theorist Lin Wood, one of the biggest and most influential QAnon supporters. Wood previously urged his 814,000 Telegram followers to ring up the Amita Resurrection Hospital and demand that Wolski be treated with ivermectin instead of approved and tested drugs or vaccines.

FL Police Chief: Covid kills more cops than violence against police

"He said, “COVID is killing more cops than all the violence throughout our country geared towards officers. Our numbers are spiking in police departments. Look around our state. I mean 6 to 7 to 8 officers passing away. It’s a sobering time. I’m not talking about politics. This is a life and death situation.”

He stated, “I wish everybody would get vaccinated. I am vaccinated since the heart work and I got the 3rd vaccination for myself. I have been around a lot of people who have gotten COVID. I have not gotten it. My comment to my officers if that there may come a time when you need to get vaccinated to work here.”

“The second part of it and I have told them is I don’t want you to get it because of your job. I want you to get it because of your family. Talk to your doctor and decide what you want to do. It is a medical decision. If you choose not to,” he says, “you should have a living will in order. That’s what I tell them. And some of these younger officers ask why? And I say what we have seen in law enforcement is that within three days you can be one of those that turn extremely for the worse and you might need to get your affairs in order for your family. Your families are what is important,” added Hudak.

Satanic Temple takes legal action against Texas abortion law

These are the same folks who, when John Boehner called Ted Cruz "Lucifer in the flesh, replied "Christians can’t just push Cruz off on Satanists.”

"The Satanic Temple argued that under The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which was created to allow Native Americans access to peyote for use in rituals, its members should be allowed to access abortion pills Misoprostol and Mifepristone without regulatory action.

Satanic Temple spokesperson, Lucien Greaves, said in a statement. “I am sure Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton—who famously spends a good deal of his time composing press releases about Religious Liberty issues in other states—will be proud to see that Texas’s robust Religious Liberty laws, which he so vociferously champions, will prevent future Abortion Rituals from being interrupted by superfluous government restrictions meant only to shame and harass those seeking an abortion.”
