ARPad95's JournalI knew somebody who went to law school and passed the bar exam, but went back to undergraduate
school for a biology degree so he could go to med school and become a doctor. He's been a neuropsychiatrist with a law degree for over 30 years.
Does everyone know if you were married at least 10 years and your ex-spouse was the higher wage
earner, you can file for Social Security based on your ex-spouse's record?

You could receive up to 50% of the amount your living ex-spouse would collect at "full retirement age." That marker is determined by birth year and varies from age 65 to age 67. The age you start benefits factors into the amount you receive.
You are correct about 35 years, but it goes as far back as the first earnings as long as
the wage earner reached 40 quarters of earnings.
For example:
My SS earnings record covers the years from 1978 (when I first paid into SS) to 2022 = 44 years. I didn't have any earnings (0 on my record) in 14 of those years due to staying home with my children and essentially retiring after 2013. My monthly SS benefit is based on the "average indexed monthly earnings" of the 30 years I had earnings plus 5 years of 0 earnings to get to the 35 years. If I had gone back to work for 5 more years, I could have replaced 5 of the 0 years to get a higher benefit.
I'm a non-insulin dependent diabetic and this is what I eat for lunch every day:
1/4 avocado sliced
1/2 can of gourmet solid white albacore tuna packed in water mixed with 1 tsp of olive oil mayonnaise
3-4 strawberries sliced
24 raw almonds
1 square 90-92% dark chocolate
Sometimes the strawberries get switched out for orange or apple slices.
This lunch doesn't raise my glucose levels much at all and I truly never grow tired of it. It helps that my husband prepares it for me.
Good for you for thinking of your friend's medical needs while in your company. Hopefully, he'll take a hint and take more responsibility for monitoring and keeping his diabetes under control himself.

The 8.7% increase in my monthly SS benefit amounts to $68. I started early at age 62, but my dh
will wait until age 70 for his benefit.
I bought my first computer through my workplace at the end of 1992. I don't think I connected
to the internet/WWW until 1996 because that's when I joined an AOL expectant mothers' group. So I've been using social media for 25+ years.
