Moscow has taken 700,000 children out of Ukraine, Russian lawmaker says

About 700,000 children have been brought into Russian territory from war zones in Ukraine, a lawmaker in Russia’s upper house of parliament said late Sunday. Grigory Karasin, chairman of the international committee in the Russian Federation Council, wrote on Telegram that hundreds of thousands of children had “found refuge” in Russia in recent years. The United States and Ukraine have previously said that many children have been forcibly and illegally deported from their homes during the conflict.

Roberts thinks the criticism of his court has gone too far.

The justices had “employed the traditional tools of judicial decisionmaking” [to tear up decades of precedent]

... Roberts’s opinion in the student-debt case, ... “seemed to break the fourth wall and speak to the public at large.”

“It has become a disturbing feature of some recent opinions to criticize the decisions with which they disagree as going beyond the proper role of the judiciary,” Roberts wrote, declaring that the justices had “employed the traditional tools of judicial decisionmaking” in making their rulings. “It is important that the public not be misled either,” the chief justice continued. "Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.”

But as they say in scary movies, the call was coming from inside the house.

“From the first page to the last, today’s opinion departs from the demands of judicial restraint,” Kagan wrote in her dissent to Roberts’s opinion. She added: "Justices throughout history have raised the alarm when the Court has overreached … It would have been ‘disturbing,’ and indeed damaging, if they had not.”

CNN - "John Roberts doesn’t want to hear any dissent about his Supreme Court"

This guy (he is no "justice&quot doesn't want to hear it!

He doesn't want to hear that it is wrong, if not also illegal, to take on a phony case in which the woman had no standing, so the he could rule that LGBTQ+ are second class or worse citizens! That signs will be going up in stores "we don't serve 'N' " !

John doesn't want to hear it that his "Supreme" Court is likely one of the most corrupt in US history.

John doesn't want to hear that his buddies, as has he, have been bought and paid for.

John doesn't want to hear it. Oh, okay John.

The go-getters set their sights on a Supreme Court Justice.

The Russians didn't fuck around and bought a president.

The most stupid thing -

When I was a child and first learned of male sexual violence against women, I used to go to bed thinking 'Why cant women be as physically strong as men.' A child's magical thinking. - 'We can work it out'. But we can not. In South Korea the same pattern is writ large. Koreans can usually defend themselves - Taekwondo - but it is so bad there that women have gone on strike against boyfriends, marriage and kids. Why can't we fix this? Does it have to be the same failure as reconstruction? Looking for a non-political discussion. I am still l looking for a good news story. Or two.

Disney to shutter retail National Geographic

National Geographic lays off its last remaining staff writers

On Wednesday, the Washington-based magazine that has surveyed science and the natural world for 135 years reached another difficult passage when it laid off all of its last remaining staff writers.

The cutback — the latest in a series under owner Walt Disney Co. — involves some 19 editorial staffers in all, who were notified in April that these terminations were coming. Article assignments will henceforth be contracted out to freelancers or pieced together by editors. The cuts also eliminated the magazine’s small audio department.

In a further cost-cutting move, copies of the famous bright-yellow-bordered print publication will no longer be sold on newsstands in the United States starting next year, the company said in an internal announcement last month.
