Fast food workers with Fight for $15 and a Union in Memphis joined about 100 others earlier this week from St. Louis and Tampa in a strike to protest against unsafe working conditions amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Tiffany Lowe, an employee at a local Kentucky Fried Chicken, participated in this weeks strike, saying that the current working conditions and lack of protection for workers is sickening.
Employees from McDonalds, Checkers, and Burger King in the three cities also joined the strike.
Since we are essential workers, we figured that was the way to get peoples attention, Lowe said. Im frustrated, angry, and confused as to why a multi-billion dollar corporation such as KFC wouldnt give us the things we need to survive like hazard pay, healthcare, and paid sick leave. I mean if they want to call us essential employees then they should make us feel essential, treat us like human beings, and give us what we deserve.

If approved, the blood test could show if your immune system has developed coronavirus antibodies. But a positive result isn't a license to return to work.

"The entire testing process happens at home," says Scanwell Chief Medical Officer Jack Jeng, "No specimen has to be shipped back."
A positive test result means a patient has been exposed to COVID-19 at some point in the past and has developed antibodies to fight it.
What the test can't do is tell you whether you're currently sick with coronavirus, whether you're contagious, whether you're fully immune and whether you're safe to go back out in public.
A mounting casualty of coronavirus crisis: Health care jobs

Clinical staff members being sent home are not treating coronavirus patients, or they have little to do in suddenly quiet offices and facilities where there is no crisis, the institutions leaders say.
But they may be in areas where there will be growth in the virus, which makes layoffs particularly alarming, because hospitals are gearing up or should be gearing up even in places where coronavirus is not an emergency as it in other parts of the country, said Tricia Neuman, who directs the Medicare policy program at the Kaiser Family Foundation.
-----
Hes not sure how he would sign up to help in areas slammed by the virus, and his employer didnt give him any guidance, he said.
Thats the problem with the for-profit health care system, Hlumyk said, citing the tendency of hospitals to compete for resources instead of share them.
Emphasis added is mine.
Speaks volumes.

Note: from NYP.
But other animals such as dogs, chicken and pigs are not likely to catch or spread the virus, the study found. And there is no direct evidence that cats would be able to infect people.
We found that SARS-CoV-2 replicates poorly in dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks, but efficiently in ferrets and cats, reads a summary of the study. We found that the virus transmits in cats via respiratory droplets.
The study has not yet been peer-reviewed, however, experts not involved in the study said the findings were credible.
Professor Jonathan Ball, a virologist at the University of Nottingham, told The Guardian that similar observations of transmission in cats had been made in relation to the SARS virus.

An antibody called CR3022, produced by a patient in response to the coronavirus that causes SARS, also binds to the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This suggests that theres a specific region of the virus to target with drugs. (Courtesy of Meng Yuan and Nicholas Wu of the Wilson lab)
The discovery could help target a weak spot in the virus with strong drugs.
Friday that there appears to be a specific area of the coronavirus that could be targeted with drugs and other therapies, a finding that also could help with the development of a vaccine.
