So Democrats, what's the plan?

I keep hearing the Left side saying "Biden hasn't got the messaging right." "He needs to talk about the successes." Most every time I hear Joe speaking, he's talking the successes. Thing is, the people who are pro-Trump aren't listening; for them it's the border, inflation (high prices), jobs, wages...whatever. They say the economy is bad but don't know the difference between a healthy economy and inflation.

And whatever the hell they are unhappy with, it's Biden's fault and Trump is promising he'll fix it all and get retribution to console their souls. These people don't give two shits about statistics or successes or democracy based government. If a candidate says he can fix it, they'll vote for him.

Meanwhile, the Right side is doing everything possible to suppress the vote and spread disinformation to keep the Trump movement ginned up.

The Democratic Party leaders are trying to win an election the old fashion way: statistics, successes, civility and honor. The Republicans are barbarians: no rules, no limits, no civility, no honor. Just win; by whatever means necessary. The Dems are trying to win a gunfight with a fly swatter.

The Republican plan is simply that of making Biden look worse than Trump. The Democrats need to let the successes speak for themselves, for the ones listening, and start a massive, negative campaign to reveal Trump for what he is and what he will do in a second term.

And they can do that with civility and honor because the truth alone, will make Trump look far worse than Biden.

Can someone explain to me which part of the Constitution...

..leads Trump and his lawyers to think he has immunity from all his indictment charges?

Or is it the same cockamamie propaganda as the Presidential Records Act giving him the right to take a bunch of government documents home when he left office?

Gas prices are down in 'Bama

Some recent prices I’ve seen on 87 octane were $2.60. I think the statewide average is a little higher but it’s way less than the previous $4+ prices.

EDIT (Current avg $2.76)

Rep Jame Comer is such a fool.

James Comer must really be afraid of losing his job to continue to show his stupidity on a daily basis.

NY Times and Washington Post have decided a second term Trump will be...

..an authoritarian rule. No shit, Sherlock.

I don't peruse either of those outlets on a daily basis; just look up the stories that are referenced on MSNBC or maybe Google either for an opinion on a thought. And I know both papers have published articles previously relative to a second term Trump presidency but it seems they have just within the last week decided it was time to go to Defcon 4 or 3...

My favorite MSNBC news shows have been lecturing their audiences on the horrors of a second term Trump for two years, if not longer. Once it became obvious Trump wasn't going away, one has to start contemplating all the possibilities of a return of the stable genius.

Then again, maybe the NYT and WaPo see him still running strong polls against Biden and a shoo-in for the GOP candidate, along with yet to begin, court trials with only forecasted start dates and have decided a 2024 win for Trump is a real possibility.

I thought everyone on our side of the street knew Trump's intentions were a foregone conclusion.

I'm thinking there's a single possibility of a Trump trial before...

..election day: the election interference case. Willis has already predicted 2025 for her case and Cannon is dragging out the pretrial stuff with hers. One shot at a Trump conviction before the election and that will hinge on 12 openminded, unbiased jurors.

Disconcerting...

Cheney elucidates the danger of a second term Trump presidency

Most of us at DU already know this but just for clarity...

https://www.wetheveterans.us/news-and-events/is-the-us-a-democracy-its-more-complicated-than-you-thought?gclid=Cj0KCQiAsburBhCIARIsAExmsu6hFx-aCxCMNKpg0In6sm-bWqrm9Ubghdm1Q3-f7tfZpcMEU2MakIIaAr8fEALw_wcB

It is undoubtedly true that the United States is a constitutional republic, meaning the country rests its foundation on a constitution–the supreme law of the land.

https://www.today.com/news/politics/liz-cheney-donald-trump-not-leave-office-rcna127883

"And Donald Trump has told us exactly what he will do. He will not abide by the rulings of the courts [laws]. "He won’t support and uphold the Constitution," she said. He will certainly appoint people to office whether or not they can be confirmed by the Senate.

"We’ve already seen what happened. He is the only president in American history who attempted to overturn an election, who attempted to seize power, to stay in power after he had lost. The reason that we didn’t have a much more serious crisis was because there were people around him who stopped him."

"We won’t have that safeguard again," she continued, "and he’s so dangerous. If you have a president who is unwilling to abide by the rulings of the courts, who’s unwilling to uphold the Constitution, then there are no guardrails who can stop him."

Repug James Comer keeps going down the rabbit hole.

I was listening to Hannity's radio show today, just to see which worn-out rabbit he was chasing and he had Comer on the show saying he had the final nail in Biden's impeachment coffin. He was referring to a $1000 check supposedly written to Joe on a "shell company" bank account. And from that starting point, he alleged the money was some kind of bribery pay off from Hunter's "influence peddling, with China no less.

Same rabbit, same shit thrown at the wall.

I got home, did a quick Google search.

https://news.yahoo.com/james-comer-claims-hunter-bidens-221030259.html

“Payments from Hunter’s business entity to Joe Biden are now part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes,” Comer said in a press release.

But the release and Comer’s statement omitted some details, such as the amount of the payments and their apparent purpose. The release linked to a grainy redacted document indicating that in September 2018 Hunter Biden set up a recurring transfer to his father for $1,380 per month ― a tiny sum compared to the multimillion-dollar scale of the bribery and influence peddling schemes Republicans have alleged against Joe Biden.

Comer on Monday portrayed the monthly payments as evidence Joe Biden directly benefited from his son’s business schemes, though he did not characterize them as bribes. Nor did he dispute that the monthly payments might have been loan reimbursements. Instead, he suggested that any money from Hunter Biden was fundamentally illicit.

“There is now a pattern of members of the Biden family using their bank accounts that have been funded by Chinese and other foreign entities to send money to Joe Biden,” an Oversight Committee spokesperson said in a statement responding to Lowell. “Based on witness testimony, Joe Biden knew and participated in his family’s influence peddling schemes. The checks and payments we’ve uncovered reveal Joe Biden benefited from them.”

Jamie Raskin responded with:

“If Chairman Comer had any actual evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, he would not repeatedly resort to distorting the facts and recycling Trump-Giuliani conspiracy theories,” Raskin said.

Why people support (believe) Trump

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/05/opinion/republicans-trump-lies.html

While much has been said about the moral and political stance of people who support right-wing conspiracy theories, their gullibility is itself alarming. Gullibility means malleability and manipulability. We don’t know if the people who believed the prevailing 2012 conspiracy theories believed the 2016 or 2020 versions, but we do know that a swath of the conservative population is available for the next delusion and the one after that.

“A mixture of gullibility and cynicism is prevalent in all ranks of totalitarian movements, and the higher the rank the more cynicism weighs down gullibility,” she wrote. That is, among those gulling the public, cynicism is a stronger force; among those being gulled, gullibility is, but the two are not so separate as they might seem.

Distinctions between believable and unbelievable, true and false are not relevant for people who have found that taking up outrageous and disprovable ideas is instead an admission ticket to a community or an identity. Without the yoke of truthfulness around their necks, they can choose beliefs that flatter their worldview or justify their aggression. I sometimes think of this straying into fiction as a kind of libertarianism run amok — we used to say, “You’re entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.” Too many Americans now feel entitled to their own facts.

Without the yoke of truthfulness around their necks, they can choose beliefs that flatter their worldview or justify their aggression.

Which is what many of us have been saying since Day 1.

"It really isn't the economy, stupid."

Poll after poll gives Biden low marks relative to the "economy" but I suspect few, if any, of the pollees actually know what defines the economy. They are judging "economy" in terms of inflated prices.

The US economy is strong and inflation is decreasing.
