I don't know what the last guy is so chirpy about, either. I included the video anyway to further drive home my point about air conditioning.

CO Sec of State: 'We will stand firm' in blocking extradition of women who travel to get abortions

David Knowles,·Senior Editor
Fri, July 8, 2022 at 12:21 AM

Shortly after Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Wednesday forbidding state officials from helping other states in criminal and civil investigations of women who travel there to receive abortions, Colorado's secretary of state, Jena Griswold, affirmed that her office would "not extradite anyone for a criminal violation of another state’s laws."

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last month, leaving abortion law up to the states, Republican-led legislatures in states like Arkansas and Texas have begun looking into passing measures that make it a crime for women to obtain the procedure in other states.

For Griswold, a Democrat, that would be a blatant overreach of government power, as she articulated in a Twitter thread on Wednesday.

"Every American should have the right to choose who to start a family with, if and when to start a family, and how many children to have," she wrote. "Pregnancy is never something that should be forced on women by the government."

The court's decision, however, has already led nine Republican-led states to ban abortion, and more restrictions are on the horizon. Many Democratic-led states, meanwhile, have looked to bolster protections for women seeking abortions and the medical providers offering it. The new patchwork reality promises that legal battles on abortion will continue to play out in the coming years.

Biden could make prosecuting abortion providers more difficult, activists say

Pressure is growing on President Joe Biden to safeguard abortion patients’ data, as concerns rise that prosecutors could deploy the information as evidence in states that have banned the procedure.

Biden administration officials, led by Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, have taken some steps to reassure people and said they are exploring all options, while also trying to dampen expectations. And on Friday, Biden announced an executive order that promised to bolster privacy protections, but it was thin on new details.

Some Democratic lawmakers, joined by privacy- and abortion-rights activists — have urged the administration to do more to encourage Congress to pass privacy laws tightening control over personal data that patients share online at myriad websites and apps and to push the regulatory envelope.

“The best time to have taken forceful action to protect data would have been the day Dobbs leaked. The second best time is now,” said Matthew Cortland, a senior fellow at Data For Progress, mentioning the name of the Supreme Court decision last month ending the constitutional right to an abortion. “It is an ongoing urgent life and death issue for millions of Americans. And, frankly, the administration cannot afford to wait any longer.”

Snake Island a warning to Russia, Ukraine 'will not be broken', says Zelensky

Source: Malaysia Now

Friday, July 08, 2022

President Volodymyr Zelensky said the raising of the Ukrainian flag on Snake Island in the Black Sea was a sign his country would not be broken, as President Vladimir Putin warned the West that its efforts to defeat him would bring tragedy to Ukraine.

Zelensky, in his nightly video message on Thursday, responded with defiance, saying that the two-month operation to retake Snake Island was a warning to all Russian forces.

"Let every Russian captain, aboard a ship or a plane, see the Ukrainian flag on Snake Island and let him know that our country will not be broken," he said.
