(55,334 posts)He could never bullshit his way into the Democratic nomination. We don't have the same history of a party leadership lying to us and ginning up bogus racial resentments so that we'd vote against our own economic interests.
If, say, a John Edwards type managed to get the Democratic nomination, I'd probably vote for him. But Edwards, while about as close to a Trump as a liberal Dem could get, is still not a fair parallel to Trump. He would still have to perform as a responsible manager of the government and economy. Ultimately, the big cultural difference between us and them is that Democrats want a strong business manager in charge of the Executive Branch because we take government seriously, but Republicans want a strong cheerleader to inspire them to individual greatness, which will somehow, eventually, magically fix all social problems and auto-balance the budget.
