(8,021 posts)31. He's from the era when I first got interested in politics.
I used to watch the Sunday morning talk shows as a teenager - David Brinkley, etc., and enjoyed the actual, real debate of competing ideas, along with the "sport" of politics. I credit that experience for giving me a "balanced" view of things, and figuring out where I stood.
I pity the young person now - there's no debate of ideas anymore. I'm not under the illusion that the progressive way is the only "true" way, but there's nothing reasonable on the other side any more. Their currency is fear and emotion, not ideas.
