The TV news media showing night after night the carnage and misery that was going on.
It didn't change the minds of the war hawks, but then again nothing would.

People think being shot is like what they see on TV dramas...the hero gets shot in the gut and next week is walking around, doing leaps and getting into fights like nothing happened. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you survive getting shot anywhere on your body it will change your life forever.
