as Americans nowadays seem so easily led around by our noses to buy or believe anything, as if we jump from one "feel good" to the next.

What happened to the good old days when we achieved most all our personal satisfactions through direct human interactions, nature, the arts, and lots of reading and open-minded debating to expand our intellect?

Republicans and their plutocratic funders appear to want Americans to be fiercely independent and individualistic, which makes us very easy to influence and control. That, in my view, is a very dangerous path for us to take and it's difficult to reverse.
