(67,782 posts).....of our newly elected Democratic members of the House and Senate, many of them young, some not so young. It's a great mix of men and women, people of all ethnic backgrounds and economic backgrounds and sexual orientations, all anxious to start being productive members of Congress.
How many of those 62 have we seen discussed here since the November election? How many have taken shots at their fellow Democrats in either house? How many have spoken about their age? How many have mentioned their ethnic background? The answer is very very few, and just about all of those that have did so in a positive manner, Sharice Davids is a perfect example. Not like they're "owed" something because of it.
Most of them are off doing their thing - studying up on how to legislate, learning the ropes, reading the rules, and meeting with their more experienced colleagues.
And there have been some great stories coming out about the preparations these new legislators are making for their upcoming careers, and how they've been bonding as freshmen members. Did you see the story about Ayanna Pressley and how she came about being assigned the same office that her hero, Shirley Chisolm, had years ago? It's a great story about her and fellow freshman Katie Hill.
When I was hired for my first job out of college as an engineer, way back in 1972 (46 years ago) I didn't start critiquing my fellow employees even before I started work there, or criticizing those who I'd be working with for who knows how long in the future. I concentrated on how to be an engineer beyond my book learning.
