2. Agree with virtually all, but expecting people hoping to

hold office to commit what would very likely turn into career suicide by confessing, out of nowhere, to long-ago minor offensive acts like this one, which caused no measurable harm to anyone, is both asking too much and, considering what we see happening, extremely blind to reality.

Because we all know it'd change nothing for those righteously angered, much for less opponents suddenly handed a deadly weapon or political parties suddenly in the crosshairs of that weapon.
The timing and origin of the revelation would be different, but not the various motives, rationales, and personalities of the groups calling for his head.

Obviously genuinely large offenses, like conspiring to get a black colleague fired, and genuine crimes would be very different.
