In reply to the discussion: Ilhan Omar apologizes [View all]George II
(67,782 posts)28. Your "constituents"? Minnesota has eight members in the House, and about 25,000 Jewish residents...
...less than one-half of one percent - how many constituents is she talking about, like maybe 5,000?
I said elsewhere here, she should visit NYC, specifically Brooklyn, and learn something about the anti-Semitic language that Jewish people have to deal with day after day.
"Listening and learning, but standing strong"? I interpret that as "I had to say it but don't really believe it", which is confirmed by the last paragraph.
Just as disappointing as the original comments for which she's apologizing.
I operate on the premise that I think of what I'm saying before I say it, if it seems offensive I don't say it. That drastically reduces the need to apologize.

I'm glad she apologized. I don't get why adults in public service need to "learn" so much

Oh please...as if she needs an "education" on anti-semitic tropes. Disingenuous bullshit.

She actually does. She should have attacked our government's Emmanuel Goldstein instead

I agree. That was bordering on "I apologize to anyone I may have offended". Lukewarm.

It's good of her to apologize, but her point was GOP takes too much lobbyist money

No because there is no 2000 year old belief that the NRA is an evil group that buys people off

Thank you! "AIPAC does that [lobbying] for Israel and does NOT represent Jewish-American people." nt

I still would have tweeted like she originally did, without even a thought of anti-semitism.

This is a real apology and is an example of the correct way to issue an apology
