27. We've gone from a $2000 Fed refund to owing $5500.

Let’s say the reversal of fortune was tRump inpired: the agent at ADP who figured out deductions for the nonprofit where I was working got confused by the new tax guidelines and treated every employee at our place as exempt, which meant no Fed tax was withheld. As we all had direct deposit - and as there had never been a problem before - we just assumed things were normal. I was expecting a refund this year. I nearly fell over when I got my W2 to see that only $161 had been withheld in Fed tax.

Needless to say, I don't have that kind of $ sitting around. Looks like we’ll be paying in installments and incuring penalties.

We will be getting $1500 back in our CA state taxes.
