27. Hitler promised to make Germany great again, too.

And no, I'm not violating Godwin's Law. That was exactly Hitler's pitch: he was going to raise Germany from the devastation of WWI and create a Thousand-Year Reich. But he also needed scapegoats for people to fear so they would support him, and of course those were the Jews especially, as well as foreigners and other outsiders. Hitler was about as despicable as it's possible to be, but people followed him right off a cliff because he was making Germany great again. Which, of course, he didn't; it took decades, plus reunification, for it to recover.
