Concealed carry strikes me as equally bad. Despite what all the gun humpers say, there is almost no need for anyone to have a gun. If you hunt, your gun can be kept locked up until hunting season, then returned to the lock-up with any unused ammunition.
As for home protection, think of all the heart-warming times when a parent shot and killed a teen who lived in the house who was sneaking home after curfew. Yeah, that'll teach 'em.
I have not yet seen anyone openly carrying when I'm out in public. If I do I hope I'd actually have the presence of mind to walk out, and if in a restaurant leave without paying, while letting someone know exactly why I'm leaving.
I have seen signs on stores, the library, and I think some churches that show guns aren't allowed inside.
Here's another thing all those who think they need a gun with them every minute to be safe: as terrible as mass shootings are, they are still essentially isolated events. Any one person's odds of being in a mass shooting is incredibly tiny. And there's no reason to think another shooter would have improved things.
