9. They're still following the path laid out to them by Newt Gingrich in the late 1990s/early 2000s

During the Clinton impeachment, ratings for the new Fox News network soared and CNN went down primarily because Republicans, en masse, all defected to Fox News and derided CNN as the Clinton News Network for daring to cover 'both sides" of the issue.

In an effort to win back disaffected conservatives, they met with Congressional leadership - Newt Gingrich and others - who advised them to put more conservatives/Republicans on the air. CNN obliged. Now, the liberals were pissed off and soon started flocking to MSNBC and outspoken Keith Olbermann and his nightly anti-Bush spiels and conservatives never really came back to CNN because they didn't trust them, having fallen in love with Fox.

So, CNN has generally been in the tank for a good 15 years now
